A revised version of the original pamphlet by Bonnie Wilcox, DVM
American Brittany Rescue, Inc. does its best to encourage responsible breeding practices, and to educate and inform breeders and owners in order to help reduce the number of irresponsible breedings. We have a large network across the U.S. and we are always able and happy to provide referrals to responsible breeders and rescue groups for those looking for a Brittany. Thank you for reading, understanding, and passing along this information. REASONING
There is no medical or psychological reason to breed any dog . It will not settle your dog down (although neutering very well might!), and females do not need to have a litter or go even through one season before being spayed. You will not get an exact replica of your dog.

Dog Health Care
News and Information for the Health Care for your Breed of Dog
One of the best ways to increase your understanding of dog health care is to understand the risks to your dogs health. Care needs to be taken to ensure your dog is free from Mosquitoes, Fleas and Ticks to prevent many diseases, infections and shock.
MOSQUITOS AND DOG HEALTH CARE
Mosquito’s contain the threat of canine heart worm , which is spread after a dog is bitten by an infected mosquito. This disease can be found throughout the world, where ever mosquitoes are found. Heart worms are tiny parasites transmitted by mosquitoes. When these worms mature inside a dog, they clog the arteries, "choke" the heart, and ultimately kill the pet. Since the disease itself is so devastating, by far the best treatment is prevention. How to Prevent Heart worms: Dog health care prevention of heart worms comes in the form of medication supplied by your vet. This health care medication prevents heart worms before they start by killing the larvae before they can grow and fill an animal’s arteries. Medication can begin at a young age and the dog health care medication is easily administered using chewable treats or a daily pill. Most vets recommend dog health care treatment for Heart worms, regardless of where you live. FLEAS AND DOG HEALTH CARE Fleas use pets as hosts to incubate their larvae, which roll off your pet onto your bed, pillow, carpet, sofa and any other area they may come in contact with. As mature fleas, they will feed and breed, with female fleas able to lay 25 eggs per day, thus contributing 100’s of eggs in her lifetime.

Before taking your dog or cat on a long trip by car, ask yourself these questions:
· Will your pet be welcome at the destination?
· Will your pet enjoy the trip?
· Is your pet in good health?
If you've answered 'yes,' accustom your dog or cat to your car. Begin with short rides each day and gradually increase the length. If your pet is unable to adjust to short rides, a responsible sitter or a boarding kennel is preferable. If you board him, make reservations well in advance, especially for summer months and major holidays. Read more ...
