He did say the oldest, didn't he?  I thought I heard that.  He didn't say the most senior.  He didn't say the most experienced.  He said the oldest.  Of course he's correct.             General McNeill, it's good to see you, sir.  General Caldwell, I thank you so much for those kind words and for your service.  Distinguished guests all gathered here on this lovely day.  It's a privilege for me and an honor to be with you all.  It's good to be at Fort Bragg in this great state. A very, very long time ago, back in 1942, I lived in North Carolina briefly when my father was in the Navy in World War II, near the coast in a place called Elizabeth City; and I've had a chance to meet some of the veterans and paratroopers from that war, World War II, as well as other combat veterans from the 82nd Airborne in its many campaigns.  Gentlemen, it's an honor to be with you today, to thank you, to watch you march, and to salute you for your service.

Welcome to the Live Long, Live Well Walking Program
for New Jersey's residents age 50 plus
The Live Long, Live Well Walking Program , a New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services' wellness initiative, helps state residents age fifty and older to walk their way to better health and improved physical fitness. Live Long, Live Well participants receive a free walker's logbook with helpful hints to make walking a safe, fun and beneficial experience. Participants can walk alone, with a friend or with a group, and each walker gradually works up to walking 30 minutes, or the equivalent of two miles per day, four or five days a week. Participants track their progress in the logbook and those who walk regularly for 12 consecutive weeks receive a Live Long, Live Well Walking Program Certificate of Achievement. Walking is one of the best ways for people of any age to become and stay fit. Participants in the Live Long, Live Well Walking Program

Hillary Practices Long Division The Washington Post notes today that Hillary's dance with the Democratic Leadership Council has a blog battle brewing. The folks over at Daily Kos aren't pleased, arguing that "the DLC is not a credible vehicle" to unify a broad spectrum of Democratic factions. Meanwhile, Marshall Whitman slings mud from the DLC-sponsored Bull Moose blog
He writes: "While someone from the daily kosy (misspelling intended)confines of Beserkely might utter ominous McCarthyite warnings about the 'enemy within,' here in Columbus constructive committed crusaders for progressivism are discussing ways to win back the hearts of the heartland."

This article explains how to teach long division using hands-on materials (skittles, base ten blocks, colored counters, numeral cards) and investigates reviewing division word problems with middle school students (N=27) with learning disabilities in mathematics by this approach compared to spending the same amount of time on the typical practices of computerized drill and paper/pencil work. Student performance related to division was assessed by an identical pretest/posttest. Both groups participated in ten thirty-minute lessons during which the experimental group used place value color-coded numeral cards, counters and skittles, and the control group reviewed division with computerized practice and worksheet activities. A significant difference was found between the average gain scores of the two groups, favoring the experimental (17.1% versus 4.5%). The experimental group scored as well or better than the control group on all test sections. Download this article (1.0 MB, PDF)

Division II Long-Range Financial Plan (April 2002)
"A Commitment to Division II Conference Offices" I. Foreword The following information contains a detailed description of the Division II Presidents Council and Management Council plan to use the Division II unallocated revenue ("surplus") during the next five years to support the initiatives and priorities outlined in the Division II strategic plan. To accomplish this task, the Presidents Council and Management Council will rely on Division II conference offices to develop and implement programs for its member institutions that will accomplish Division II strategic objectives. This long-range financial plan outlines the program that the Division II Budget and Finance Committee will follow to enhance conference office operations in order for conferences to address Division II strategic initiatives. In addition, a program has been developed to hold a conference accountable for its activities related to the Division II strategic plan. II. Introduction The Division II Management Council and Presidents Council endorsed a financial blueprint for a five-year budget that relies on stronger Division II conference offices to bring life to the division's strategic plan. The blueprint, developed by the Division II Budget and Finance Committee, sets a schedule to implement a wide range of new Division II initiatives, along with their estimated costs.

I had that brought home recently when I decided to rewrite the integer divide procedure in our Big Integer Arithmetic unit The "BigInt" unit can manipulate integers with hundreds of decimal digits. The original procedure for division used multiple subtractions within each digit to accomplish the task. I decided to rewrite it to more closely simulate what we humans do when we perform long division with pencil and paper. 4th graders learn to do it, so how hard can it be? After several days, and several restarts, I found out. Once again the amazing abilities of our minds was brought home. I finally "cheated" and started searching the Internet for other's solutions to the problem. The best one I found is in the tutorial

20.2 Integer Division
This section describes functions for performing integer division. These functions are redundant when GNU CC is used, because in GNU C the ` ' operator always rounds towards zero. But in other C implementations, ` ' may round differently with negative arguments. div and ldiv are useful because they specify how to round the quotient: towards zero. The remainder has the same sign as the numerator. These functions are specified to return a result r such that the value r .quot* denominator r .rem equals numerator To use these facilities, you should include the header file stdlib.h in your program.
This is a structure type used to hold the result returned by the div function. It has the following members:
int quot
The quotient from the division.
int rem
The remainder from the division.
div int numerator, int denominator
This function div computes the quotient and remainder from the division of numerator by denominator , returning the result in a structure of type If the result cannot be represented (as in a division by zero), the behavior is undefined.
