Rollerskating ballroom dancing (also known as dancesport) and water skiing could be events you see at future Olympic Games . You may also see tug-of-war, sumo wrestling and even chess. All of these are activities which the people who organize the Olympics consider to be "sports", and are thinking about adding as new events to future Olympic competitions
Olympic Events - Too Many Dumb Ones
There are already enough lame sports at the Olympics . They don't need to add more sports; they need to get rid of some. Why do they even have fencing or shooting events ? These are not sporting events, these are ways of killing people. The same goes for synchronized swimming , which you'll be seeing at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece . If you have to put on make-up and get judged based on how much you smile - then it's not a sport. What are they gonna add next? Modeling and hair styling ? The IOC (International Olympic Committee) did have enough brains to decide that bodybuilding is not a sport (it's Bodybuilding actually defined as a circus act or a freak show) - but the organization has given status to too many other activities that should really be classified as hobbies, rather than sports.

Diving
History Rules Athletes Records ... Qualifications
Diving calls for both physical and technical ability. Divers perform a figure, or a series of figures, each of which has an assigned degree of difficulty. The athletes dive into the swimming pool trying to disturb the water as little as possible when they break the surface (rip entry). The routine and the order in which the divers perform their dives are recorded on a diving list. Diving Olympic diving consist of the following events: Athletes dive from a platform called “highboard” or springboard. They try to perform their figures in the best way possible before reaching the surface of the water. The judging panel consists of seven judges. They give their score based on the degree of difficulty and ease displayed by the athletes while performing their programme.
Synchronised Diving
See the Olympic sports animations  The dive is performed by a duet of divers, who execute their movements with perfect coordination in take-off (height and distance from the board); speed of rotation; plunge; and angle of entry into the water.

The United States has dominated Olympic diving, winning 125 of the 225 medals, including 46 of 75 gold medals. Chinese divers won three of the four gold medals at Atlanta in 1996. The finer points
Format: Springboard competition is from the 3-meter board; platform from 10 meters. Seven judges score each dive from to 10 in full or half-point increments. Highest and lowest scores are dropped, and the remaining scores are added together and multiplied by the degree of difficulty (1.2 to 3.6). That total is multiplied by 6. Combined semifinal and final scores determine final results. Pool: Depth is at least 16 feet, 5 inches. A small hose sprays water onto the pool surface, creating a ripple effect, so the diver can see the surface. Without it, the water takes on a glass-like appearance, and all you can see is the bottom of the pool.

History
Print Preview of Section Diving has been a human activity as long as swimming has been, from simple entries into the water to jumps for fun from natural high points such as cliffs and outcroppings. During the 1800s diving headfirst into the water to swim became popular, and a sport called plunging developed. Participants would plunge from the side of a pool or dock or any other high point above the water, hold their breath, and glide beneath the water for as far as possible. From 1893 to 1937, plunging championships were held, and the plunge was an event at the 1904 Olympic Games in St. Louis, Missouri.
