50 YEARS NIAID HOMEPAGE INFECTIOUS DISEASES IMMUNOLOGIC DISEASES AIDS ... NIH HOMEPAGE An Attack on Self Tissues
W hen the immune system mistakes self tissues for nonself and mounts an inappropriate attack, the result is an autoimmune disease. There are many different autoimmune diseases. Some examples are Wegener's granulomatosis, multiple sclerosis, type 1 diabetes mellitus, and rheumatoid arthritis. Autoimmune diseases can each affect the body in different ways. For instance, the autoimmune reaction is directed against the brain in multiple sclerosis and the gut in Crohn's disease. In other diseases, such as systemic lupus erythematosus (lupus), affected tissues and organs may vary among individuals with the same disease. Many autoimmune diseases are rare. As a group, however, they afflict millions of Americans. Most autoimmune diseases strike women more often than men, particularly affecting women of working age and during their childbearing years.

Most of us started smoking back in the 40's and 50's. The money spent, even back then, by the tobacco companies, were in the billions of dollars, just in advertisements and cigarette handouts. Even now, their advertising dollars are directed to the younger generation. If you would like a sampling of the older advertisements, we are thankful to Chickenhead.com for making these available to us. Just click on Cigarette Ads
Glenda Jones
I have a disease know as emphysema. I would like to give all teenagers a brief description of my life as a person with emphysema. The facts that I provide to you will be a true-life experience of my trials and tribulation of my disease. Young people sometimes do not realize that smoking can destroy their future. They do not understand the problems that can develop from smoking. They do not understand the affect it can have on their health. When I was a young person, I never realized that smoking could diminish the most important factor in my life my breathing. When you can't breath you begin to realize how insignificant a cigarette can be in meeting your daily habit. I wish now I had never had a habit of smoking. I realize now breathing is a life function you can not live without, but cigarettes you can. If you had endured the pain I have suffered throughout the last ten years, you would never smoke a cigarette. I have had several collapsed lungs. I have had my back cut open, and had my lung partially removed. I have also spent months at a time in a hospital away from my family. The suffering is still not over; I now have to have my other lung partially removed. This procedure will prolong my life, for a later lung transplant.

List of common ailments and recommended treatments.

    FAQ Angelfish Gallery For Sale
When diseases occur, it is usually due to stressors in the environment that reduces the immunity of fishes for the many diseases that are present in most aquariums. The most common cause is overcrowding which leads to high ammonia levels. Undergravel filters work best at keeping the ammonia levels down. I also use Ammo Carb in the power filters to remove organic waste. Water changes also help to maintain good health.
When spawning large numbers of fishes, diseases are almost bound to show up if prompt measures are not taken. When disease first strikes in my rearing tanks, the diseased fish is discarded and the whole tank is treated to prevent further outbreaks. Early detection is the key to combating disease outbreaks. The following are diseases that most commonly afflict angelfish. Most of them are caused by overcrowding. ANGELFISH DISEASE BLOATED BELLY DISEASE
This disease is the most common among my rearing aquariums. It is characterized by an angelfish with a bloated stomach. In very young fry 4 weeks of age and younger, it can attack and kill the a baby fish within hours. Nala Gram by Aquarium Pharmaceuticals is what I recommend. Nala-gram works the fastest among the medications I have used to treat this disease which also includes Furan and Maracyn II. FUNGUS
Fungus is caused by poor water conditions. Some strains such as blacks and many veiltails seem to be more susceptible to this disease. Usually the tank is overcrowded coupled with inefficient filtration. Mar Oxy is used to treat fungus but the best treatment is avoiding the disease by not crowding your fish coupled with using efficient filtration
