Scientists discover fossils of beaked dinosaurs
The skull of the subadult specimen of the 75-million-year-old Mongolian ornithomimid dinosaur Gallimimus bullatus, which preserves remnants of a beak. The fossilized parts of the beak are preserved at the tip of the snout. By Kate Tobin CNN Science and Technology NEW YORK (CNN) Scientists have identified two dinosaur skeletons with beaks like modern ducks, including a sieve-like structure inside that may have been used for filter-feeding, just as in ducks. Interestingly, experts do not believe the dinosaurs, called ornithomimids (pronounced "or-nee-THOM-i-mids") are ancestors of ducks. Rather, the beak seems to have evolved twice, first with these dinosaurs and again later with ducks, they say. The research was conducted by paleontologist Mark Norell of the American Museum of Natural History, and colleagues. It is published in this week's edition of the British journal Nature. The scientists discovered the beaks while examining two ornithomimid skeletons, one found in the Gobi Desert last year, the other found at Dinosaur Provincial Park in Alberta, Canada, in 1995. Both are about 75 million years old.

Stegosaurus means the "covered lizard." It had thick plates on its back. Its tail was covered with sharp spikes for protection. It had a very small head with a tiny brain (about the size of a walnut). Stegosaurus was fat and slow. It walked on four legs, but the back legs were twice as long as its front legs. It could not run and hide. Stegosaurus was a plant eater. Compsognathus means "pretty jaw." It was a bird-like dinosaur that walked on two long, thin legs. It had a small, pointed head with small, sharp teeth, and a long, neck. It had short arms with two clawed fingers on each hand. Compsognathus had a long tail to help its balance during quick turns. It could move very fast. It was about the size of a chicken. Compsognathus was a meat eater. It ate small animals, including insects and lizards.

Late Cretaceous Dinosaurs of the Southeastern United States by David T. King, Jr.
Department of Geology, Auburn University, Auburn, AL 36849-5305 USA

ABSTRACT INTRODUCTION
Since 1858, ninety-nine different partial to nearly complete specimens of Late Cretaceous eastern North American dinosaurs have been described in paleontological literature (discussed in King, 1996). Late Cretaceous dinosaurs from southeastern states are a significant subset of known eastern North American dinosaurs ( Table 1 Most eastern North American Late Cretaceous dinosaur specimens come from the New Jersey-Delaware-Maryland coastal plain (50); others are from Alabama (21), Mississippi (10), North Carolina (10), Georgia (6), Missouri (1), and Tennessee (1; Figure 1 ). Ninety of the 99 known dinosaur specimens are Campanian and (or) Maastrichtian, and all others are from older, Cenomanian-Santonian strata. This paper discusses dinosaurs from sites other than Missouri and New Jersey-Delaware-Maryland. Eastern North America's dinosaurian record encompasses taxonomic groups: tyrannosaurids, hadrosaurines, ornithomimids, and nodosaurs (King, 1996). These four taxonomic groups are divisible into twelve generic groups (

Easier - Dinosaurs are large reptiles that lived millions of years ago. There were many different dinosaurs. Dinosaurs came in many different sizes and shapes. They also lived differently and in different places. Some were meat-eaters, others ate only plants. Some dinosaurs were enormous, up to 150 feet long and weighing more than 77 metric tons. Others were much smaller. Harder - The name dinosaur comes from the term Dinosauria , which means 'terrible lizards.' However dinosaurs were only distantly related to lizards. Dinosaur is the name of a prehistoric reptile group that first appeared on the earth about 230 million years ago. They lived in nearly all natural settings, from open plains to forests to the edges of swamps, lakes, and oceans. Then about 65 million years ago, the dinosaurs died out. They were not 'rediscovered' by man until the early nineteenth century, when their fossil remains were first recognized.

Introduction When children go to a dinosaur museum, are the displays they see displays of science or displays of art and science fiction? Are we being deceived and brainwashed at an early age into believing a dinosaur myth? Deep probing questions need to be asked of the entire "dinosaur industry". This article will discuss the possibility that there may have been an ongoing effort since the earliest dinosaur "discoveries" to plant, mix and match bones of various animals, such as crocodiles, alligators, iguanas, giraffes, elephants, cattle, kangaroos, ostriches, emus, dolphins, whales, rhinoceroses, etc. to construct and create a new man-made concept prehistoric animal called "dinosaurs". Where bones from existing animals are not satisfactory for deception purposes, plaster substitutes may be manufactured and used. Some material similar or superior to plasticine clay or plaster of Paris would be suitable. Molds may also be employed. A 144-page book titled "Make Your Own Dinosaur Out of Chicken Bones" provides step-by-step instructions complete with detailed drawings and diagrams. What would be the motivation for such a deceptive endeavor? Obvious motivations include trying to prove evolution, trying to disprove or cast doubt on the Christian Bible and the existence of the Christian God, trying to disprove the young-earth theory, and trying to disprove creationism. Yes, there are major political and religious ramifications.
