112. History Of ChEn: What Is A Chemical Engineer?
Great introduction to what it means to be a chemical engineer.
http://www.pafko.com/history/h_whatis.html
What is a Chemical Engineer?
a) An Engineer who manufactures chemicals,
b) A Chemist who works in a factory, or
c) A glorified Plumber
This is actually a trick question as the correct answer is d) "None of the above." (Note however that chemical engineering students bored with the relentless "pipe-flow example" during fluid dynamics class may begin to think of themselves as simply "glorified plumbers".) The first two incorrect answers make sense based upon the narrow sounding title; "chemical engineer." Surely such a person must be either a "chemist who builds things", or an "engineer who makes chemicals". Yet, the English language has never really made any sense and the name "chemical engineer" is a case in point. "Enough already... go to the bottom
All Right, So What is a Chemical Engineer?
It is true that chemical engineers are comfortable with chemistry , but they do much more with this knowledge than just make chemicals. In fact, the term "chemical engineer" is not even intended to describe the type of work a chemical engineer performs. Instead it is meant to reveal what makes the field different from the other branches of engineering All engineers employ mathematics, physics, and the engineering art to overcome technical problems in a safe and economical fashion

1st Engineer Brigade
Victory Through Skill
Welcome The 1st Engineer Brigade consists of one combat engineer battalion (5th Engr Bn (C) (M)) and four training and support battalions: 35th Engr Bn (OSUT), 169th Engr Bn (AIT), 554th Engr Bn, responsible for the training of Engineer Officer Basic and Captains Career Courses and the 577th Engr Bn (training and training support). The mission of the 1st Engr Bde is to train soldiers, leaders and units, to support training and to support contingency and emergency response operations. The brigade trains advanced individual training (AIT) service members and one station unit training (OSUT) soldiers in a variety of military specialties. These include heavy construction engineer equipment operators, crane operators, engineer tracked vehicle crewmen, carpentry and masonry specialists, divers, technical engineering specialists and engineer equipment repairers. Depending on the specialty, service members can learn skills such as electrical wiring, surveying, computer aided design, land-mine warfare, combat vehicle operation and demolitions. The brigade also is responsible for teaching Basic and Captains Career Officer Courses, Warrant Officer Courses and the highly demanding Sapper Leader Course. The Engineer Officer Basic Course is a 17-week program focused on preparing Lieutenants to be platoon leaders. The Captains Career Course is a 20-week team-based program focused on preparing Captains for company command. The Sapper Leader Course is a highly demanding 28-day course that is focused on small unit leadership for light engineer units.

Tip of the Week
A little ergonomic reminder
Create a scheduled task to pop up the calculator every 20 minutes to remind you to re-focus your eyes, stretch your hands, roll your head around, etc. Try it, you'll feel better. You don't have to be an administrator to create your own scheduled task. The Windows calculator is a harmless program that pops up nicely for this purpose. You could get as creative as your circumstances allow by choosing a graphic or sound to play instead. The key is to "Open advanced properties" to tailor the schedule. Check the "Run only if logged on" box to avoid password issues. The Schedule tab will have an advanced box: This allows you to schedule at 20 minute intervals. Search for: Privacy Statement

Mechanical engineering
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
The Ford Essex V6 engine Mechanical engineering is the application of physical principles to the creation of useful reality for machine design. Such solid models may be used as the basis for finite element analysis (FEA) and / or computational fluid dynamics (CFD) of the design. Through the application of computer-aided manufacturing (CAM), the models may also be used directly by software to create "instructions" for the manufacture of objects represented by the models, through computer numerically-controlled (CNC) machining or other automated processes, without the need for intermediate drawings. Fundamental subjects of mechanical engineering include: dynamics statics strength of materials heat transfer ... kinematics , and applied thermodynamics . Mechanical engineers are also expected to understand and be able to apply concepts from the chemistry and electrical engineering fields. At the smallest scales, mechanical engineering becomes molecular engineering - one speculative goal of which is to create a molecular assembler to build molecules and materials via mechanosynthesis . For now this goal remains within exploratory engineering , and some consider it science fiction Related disciplines include;
