Jaegerkorpset Denmark's Jaegerkorpset is responsible for much of the Counter-Terrorist activities within Denmark. Jaegerkorpset is an elite Ranger Element within the Danish Army. The Danes are very careful about security, so little information about their Counter-Terrorist teams has been released. However, it is known that Jaegerkorpset operators deploy with the MP5 submachine gun ( primarily the suppressed versions ). Snipers are equiped with the reliable HK PSG-1 7.62 sniper rifle. The members of Jaegerkorpset are known to parachute from either CH-47 helicopters or C-130 cargo aircraft. On-target deliveries are performed by MD-500 helicopters. Jaegerkorpset operators are reputed to be able to supply near bulls-eyes on moving targets from these helicopters. Most of the above information was found in "The Illustrated Guide to the World's Top Counter-Terrorist Forces" Samuel M. Katz ISBN 962-361-602-3 Buy it here

Most of its landmass is occupied by the Jutland peninsula while the remaining 500 islands, of which only a hundred are occupied, comprise the rest of the country. The Skagerrak and Kattegat straits separate it from Norway and Sweden The present-day Denmark owes its cultural and linguist origins to the Danes who migrated here from Sweden in around AD 500. Denmark's history, till the medieval period. The Thirty Years War with Sweden followed by the Napoleonic Wars inflicted damages on the economy of the country. Although Denmark remained neutral in both the World Wars, it surrendered to Germany in 1940 following the large build-up of German forces along its borders. Denmark's prime attraction is its capital Copenhagen , one of the liveliest cities Europe, which also has an active nightlife. Most of the city's attractions are concentrated in a small area, while the parks, gardens, squares, and fountains are interspersed all over. One of the most interesting attractions downtown Copenhagen has to offer is Tivoli. Tivoli is a small amusement park located in the center of town and offers many gardens, rides, concerts, and weekly fireworks displays in the summer. There are a few eating establishments within and on the outskirts of the park (including a Hard Rock Cafe), which can you make a trip to Tivoli a fantastic date. The walking street is one of Copenhaen's best known landmarks and can provide hours of shopping pleasure. It is easy to get anywhere in Copenhagen cheaply and safely due to a efficient and well maintianed train network.

Denmark's history and pioneering past
Aborigines had already inhabited the area for more than 40,000 years when, in 1829, Thomas Braidwood Wilson became the first European to explore the region, naming the local river (called 'Kurrabup' by the indigenous people) in honour of his friend, English naval surgeon Dr Alexander Denmark. A timber industry established here 65 years later lasted a mere decade, leaving in its wake only a few hardy settlers. Following World War II, improvements in agriculture and a revival in timber cutting rejuvenated the district, and the population has grown at an average 4% per year since the mid-1980s, supporting new settlers and innovative industries.

Little is known of Danish history before the age of the Vikings (9th-11th cent. A.D.), when the Danes had an important role in the Viking (or Norse) raids on Western Europe and were prominent among the invaders of England who were opposed by King Alfred (871-99) and his successors. St. Ansgar (801-65) helped convert the Danes to Christianity; Harold Bluetooth was the first Christian king of Denmark. His son, Sweyn (986-1014), conquered England. From 1018 to 1035, Denmark, England, and Norway were united under King Canute (he of the sea story). The southern part of Sweden (Skne, Halland, and Blekinge) was, with brief interruptions, part of Denmark until 1658. After Canute's death, Denmark fell into a period of turmoil and civil war. Later, Waldemar (1157-82) and Waldemar II (1202-41) were energetic rulers who established Danish hegemony over Northern Europe. With the end of the Viking raids and the development of a strong and independent church, the nobles were able to impose their will on the weaker kings. In 1282, Eric V (1259-86) was forced to submit to the Great Charter, which established annual parliaments and a council of nobles who shared the king's power. This form of government persisted until 1660. Wadlermar III (1340-75) again brought Danish power to a high point, but he was humiliated by the Hanseatic League in the Treaty of Stralsund (1370). Waldemar's daughter, Queen Margaret, achieved (1397) the union of the Danish, Norwegian, and Swedish crowns. Sweden soon escaped effective Danish rule, and with the accession (1523) of Gustavus I of Sweden the union was dissolved. However, the union with Norway lasted until 1814.

The system is due to be implemented by 2007/2008. 01 February 2005 : all citizens and businesses are given the right to communicate electronically with public authorities , and to receive electronic replies if they so request. To be able to comply with these new obligations, 95% of Danish public authorities have implemented digital signatures and have established appropriate means for the reception of secure e-mail. eDay 2 also marks the generalisation of electronic invoicing to the whole public sector. From that day all invoices sent to and by public sector bodies must be in digital form when the public institution receives it.

Denmark in prehistoric times

The earliest evidence of human habitation in Denmark occurs in the Eem interglacial period (between 100000 and 70000 B.C.). Near Randers, on the Jutland peninsula, some paleolithic hunter-gatherers have left the remnants of deer bones, broken to allow access to the marrow.
Roaming reindeer hunters of the Allerød era (c. 10000 B.C.) have left reindeer horns, crafted into tools, in several places on the Jutland peninsula and on the islands. Crude, early flint tools are characteristic of this period.
The mesolithic period from 8000 to 3000 B.C. produces a series of cultures, in various locations of what is to become Denmark; in Jutland, the Gudenå culture, and on Sjælland [Zealand], the Maglemose and Kongemose cultures. These cultures have left behind rich remnants of microliths, and bone and horn tools. From around 3000 B.C., the Ertebølle culture begins to produce more solid flint tools, and clay vessels. This culture shows the earliest signs of semi-agricultural cultivation in Denmark.
In the course of the neolithic period, from 3000 to 1500 B.C., agriculture and cattle become part of the local repertoire of technology - arguably the most significant change in Danish history. The period is marked by the clearing of forests (with sharpened flint axes), the rise of small communities and villages, and the mining of flint. The period from 3000 to 2000 B.C. is dominated by the

Copenhagen Opens Its Arms
From its humble beginnings as a medieval fishing village and trade cent re , Copenhagen became the capital city of Denmark and one of Europe's most sophisticated cities. Copenhagen was named Europe's cultural capital for 1996. Throughout the year, Copenhagen sponsored a series of plays, art shows, concerts, and architectural displays that showcased its tradition of culture and art in day-to-day life. In the following article from the 1997 Collier's Year Book, American journalist Anita Peltonen described some of Copenhagen's best-known sites, from its cobbled streets and historical buildings to the graceful statue of the Little Mermaid, inspired by a fairy tale by the Danish author Hans Christian Andersen.
Copenhagen is a constituent administrative district of Denmark. It is governed by a body of elected municipal counc e lors and a group of appointed magistrates.

Club history The History of Exiles RUFC Copenhagen Denmark - 25 Years of Coarse Rugby (Extracted from "The synopsis..." by Nick Morton) 1968 was a busy year. Bob Beamon soared to a world long jump record at the Mexico Olympics, the musical "Hair" opened to shocked audiences in the West End, Gary Puckett and the Union Gap topped the charts with "Young Girl", London Bridge came tumbling down and was sold to the Americans and England's' World Champion football team lost to Yugoslavia in the European Nations cup. Much more significant, however, particularly to the unsuspecting Danish nation, was that in Copenhagen, a group of enthusiastic rugby players from all over the world, all exiled in Denmark, got together to form the Exiles Rugby Club. The common bond of being brought up with rugby as a way of life and being "exiled" in a foreign land attracted members from many different nations and all walks of life and the early years were enormously successful for the Exiles. The declared "raison d'etre" for the Exiles became to Develop The Spirit Of The Game in Denmark, an aim which still exists to this day. During a relatively short period during the mid-70s the Exiles who were to help lead the club through its most successful period, all arrived. For reasons as diverse as following a woman", "running away from a woman", "a dubious carreer move" and got lost on the way to Australia", players and administrators like Jim Brown, Gus Ferguson, Bob Wilkie, John Harris, Nick Morton, Nick Oakman and Noel de Baroid turned up, innocent and unsuspecting, out of the blue. With these new members ready, willing and able, on a long term basis, to help run the club, the Exiles suddenly had the blend of experience and youthful enthusiasm it needed to flourish. What followed was almost 10 years of domination of Danish Rugby.

A brief history of the origins of rugby in Denmark Denmark's oldest club, Speed, was founded 31 March 1950. Before this, young Danes who had served in the British Army, during and after the second world war, had formed an ex-Army Club, whose primary objective was social and a little gymnastics. These ex-servicemen discovered, in 1949, that the Copenhagen Police has started to play rugby (unfortunately stopping in 1953). There were several matches between these two clubs, and this led to the foundation of Speed in 1950. Thanks to Speed Rugby Club for this article

History
During the Middle Ages, the Viking raiders and conquerors were largely Danes. For a time the Danish realm included most of Scandinavia and England. The Danish kingdom was a major power in northern Europe until the seventeenth century, when it lost a large portion of land to what is now southern Sweden. As punishment for supporting Napoleon, the Congress of Vienna took Norway from Denmark in 1815. Denmark has existed since around the year 750. The monarchy became constitutional in 1849. Danish possessions include the Faeroe Islands and Greenland (the world's largest island). Iceland was a former Danish possession, but it declared its independence when Denmark was occupied by Nazi Germany in World War II. Type of Government The Kingdom of Denmark is today a constitutional monarchy. The symbolic chief of state is the queen or king. The only real power in that position lies in the ability to appoint the prime minister (who is the head of the government) and the cabinet ministers. These officials represent the true power in government. There is one legislative body, the 179-seat Folketing.

History of the Shire
One of the first explorers of the Denmark district described a place of fine soil, towering timber and plentiful water. Giving such a description, Dr T Wilson showed he had great expectations for future settlers. Dr Wilson was one of the first European men to penetrate the new territory outside the King George Sound Settlement that had been set up in 1826. In 1829, with the backing of Commandant Sleeman, (Commandant of Albany), Wilson took a party of men to explore the interior. Guided by the Aboriginal Mokare, the party discovered and named many geographical features of the Denmark district. Such names as the Denmark and Hay Rivers, Mt Lindesay and Mt Shadforth still remain to this day. The Denmark River was named by Wilson after a medical friend. The man, Denmark, had played an influential role in Wilson's career. Despite the positive nature of Wilson's reports about Denmark, subsequent exploration by Captains Collet Barker and T Bannister in the early 1830s raised some unfavourable aspects of the district. Captain Bannister particularly, thought that problems would arise for settlers owing to the thickly timbered nature of the land.
