Ancient castles, ring forts, jazz festivals, the sleekest modern design you'll ever see and the people who invented Lego - who could ask for more? Country Info Denmark Introduction Denmark General Data Denmark Maps Denmark Culture ... Denmark Time and Date Denmark Culture Back to Top Denmark's valuable good heritage has made multifaceted contributions to modern culture the world over. The discoveries of astronomer Tycho Brahe, geologist and anatomist Niels Steensen, and contributions of Nobel laureates Niels Bohr to atomic physics and Niels Finsen to medical research suggest the range of Danish scientific achievement. Visitors to Denmark will discover a wealth of cultural activity. The Royal Danish Ballet, specializes in the work of the great Danish choreographer August Bournonville. International collections of modern art enjoy unusually attractive settings at the Louisiana Museum north of Copenhagen, "Arken" south of Copenhagen, and the North Jutland Art Museum in Aalborg. The State Museum of Art and the Glyptotek, both in Copenhagen, contain masterpieces of Danish and international art. Denmark's National Museum building in central Copenhagen harbors most of the state's anthropological and archeological treasures with particularly fine past history and Viking Age collections; two of its finest satellite collections are the Viking Ship Museum in Roskilde west of the metropolis and the Open Air Museum in a near northern suburb where original buildings have been transported from their original locations around the nation and reassembled on plots specially landscaped to evoke the original site.

By air, the City is connected to Copenhagen (the Capital of Denmark), London, Stockholm (Sweden), Stavanger (Norway) and Oslo (Norway). The history of Aarhus goes back more than a thousand years and people have lived in Aarhus ever since the Vikings settled here, where the river flows out into the bay. Actors Portray Vikings on horseback during the Viking Fes ti val at Aarhus. Aarhus has an outstanding location. The Vikings who chose Aarhus for their settlement and their home port certainly made a good choice. Lined with woods and by beaches the city lies in its shielded spot inviting you to enjoy its many attractions. Best known and treasured is probably the open-air museum "the Old Town'' with more than 60 half-timbered houses, all carefully removed from their original sites throughout the country and now restored here in Aarhus with loving care. In the forest south of Aarhus, you will find another 3-star attraction, the Prehistoric Museum of Moesgaard. It contains the ethnographical and archaeological collections from the Stone Age, the Bronze Age, the Iron Age, and the Viking Age.
