Christina News Geography bee puts on pressure By ROBIN BROOMALL NEWARK POST STAFF WRITER Some students squirmed in their seats, others leaned forward with their heads in their hands. Wrinkled brows showed deep thinking. The silence was, at times, deafening. There were heavy sighs of relief as the students answered their questions correctly, moving them on to the next round of competition. Some weren’t so fortunate and, one by one, felt the dread of having an incorrect answer. In the end there was only one left. Seventy-nine students from all over the state, in grades four to eight, worked hard to advance to the final round of the Delaware Geographic Bee, coordinated by the Department of Education, held Friday, April 2 at Clayton Hall. They answered questions such as “Which eastern Mediterranean country controls the Dardanelles and Bosporus Strategic Straits that separate Europe and Asia?”
