Education Trust

The Education Trust works for the high academic achievement of all students at all levels, kindergarten through college, and forever closing the achievement gaps that separate low-income students and students of color from other youth. Their basic tenet is that all children will learn at high levels when they are taught to high levels. The Education Trust advances its mission along several fronts, from raising its voice in national and state policy debates to helping teachers improve instruction in their classrooms. Their work maintains a relentless focus on improving the education of all students, and particularly those students whom the system has traditionally left behind.

DC Guidance increasingly supports students in their post high school planning process beginning in 9th grade. Counselors introduce Freshmen to the concept of a transcript and its use. Sophomores take the PSAT and do summer reading to set them up for thinking biblically about college and career planning. Juniors also take the PSAT and SAT, have individual meetings with a counselor, and are part of the one semester, 14 hour, Career Stewardship Seminar . Seniors have follow-up meetings with a counselor to refine and bring their plans to closure. All 9-12 students are oriented for home or school use of the www.FutureConnect.com web site services to which the school subscribes for college, scholarship, and other planning helps. Guidance asks Juniors to complete the Junior Autobiographical Sketch ( click here to download this form ) which is kept on file in the Guidance office for teachers and guidance personnel to use to write recommendations and to help them assess students for various awards.

Testimony of Charles "Ted" Ammann April 12, 1999 Good morning members of the House Committee on Education and the Workforce, members of the press, and members of the legislative and educational community present here today. The TICG program has awarded 82 large-scale developmental projects intended to produce carefully designed and evaluated practices and products. These products and practices can be disseminated on a national basis for local adoption or adaptation by schools and districts. A variety of other federal, state and local funding sources such as Technology Literacy Challenge Funds, Title I and Goals 2000 can be used to fund the local adaptations of the TICG products and practices. TICG projects are competitive grants to consortia of schools, businesses, and universities across the country. These projects have become a highly valued resource for schools seeking technology solutions to meet educational needs (Cradler, J. and Cradler, R., Educational Technology Reauthorization White Paper, 2/16/99). President Clinton awarded our Technology Innovation Challenge Grant in October of 1995. As one of the original 19 grants, President Clinton charged us
