Help For Parents
Helping children and young adults deal with terrorism
from the National Association of School Psychologists
A s the nation learns more about what happened and why, adults can continue to help children work through their emotions and perhaps even use the process as a learning experience.
For Parents to consider:
1. Focus on your children over the next day or so
. Tell them you love them and everything will be okay. Try to help them understand what has happened, keeping in mind their developmental level.
2. Make time to talk with your children. If you do not talk to your children about this incident someone else will. Take some time and determine what you wish to say. 3. Stay close to your children. Your physical presence will reassure them and give you the opportunity monitor their reaction. Many children will want actual physical contact. Give plenty of hugs. Let them sit close to you, and make sure to take extra time at bedtime to cuddle and to reassure them that they are loved and safe.
4. Limit the amount of your child's television viewing of these events.

Women's Issues
A lot of financial obstacles that may face you as a woman can affect how well you live and how you plan for your financial future. Did you know?
  • Many women earn less than men. The national average for white females is about 74 cents to every dollar a white male earns. Black women’s earnings were 85 percent of black men’s and Hispanic women made 87 percent as much as Hispanic men (Source: US Department of Labor, Aug. 2001 In Delaware, on average women earn approximately 79.9 percent of what men earn. (Source: Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2002 annual averages In Delaware, 24.1 percent of all firms are owned by women. (Source: US Census Bureau, 1997 Nationally, about half of all women work in traditionally female, relatively low paid jobs compared to men. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (2001), women with a high school diploma earned $760 a week, compared to those without a high school diploma who earned $303 a week. Among men, college graduates earned $1,022 a week, compared to $409 for college dropouts. Do you have a pension? Nationally, fewer women have jobs with pension plans (33%) than do working men (55%).
