people places ] [other] for contact information Housing Housing to fill every lifestyle is found in the county. From beautiful old Victorian homes in Dover, Milford, and Smyrna, to modern townhouses, duplexes, apartments and many traditional homes in established neighborhoods, there is a home to be found for every budget. Competent Realtors and builders will be happy to assist home buyers in locating or building their dream home. Education Students in Kent County benefit from the small size of the school districts and from the diverse, well-managed programs which are maintained with stable state support. An emphasis on instruction in basic skills has resulted in every school in the county scoring above national norms in reading, language and mathematics. A broad range of upper-level and advanced courses for high school students, plus programs for gifted children and for children with physical, mental or emotional challenges are available. Kent County schools are noted for their extracurricular activities including athletics, the arts, Junior Achievement, and many others. Kent County schools benefit from the state's overall high standards for education. Students in Delaware must master basic skills in order to be promoted, and high school students must master basic skills to qualify for a diploma. Kent County schools are governed by local boards of education. While the state provides most of the revenues, local boards have much input in deciding how these funds can best be used to meet the needs of the community.

    Mission / Goals / History
    Our Mission
To efficiently and effectively provide quality services to our customers; to facilitate collaboration among schools, families and agencies and to enhance internal and external communications.
    Our Goals
To be a quality educational service organization dedicated to providing administrative, curricular, instructional, pupil personnel, and professional development services to the schools of Delaware and Union Counties by the most efficient and economical means possible.
    Our History
In 1914, the County Board of Education, County Superintendent, and the County Offices of Education were first established. Their duties were defined and understood by all the parties involved. Over the 85 years since they were first established, many changes have occurred in the educational system in Ohio. Through consolidation and growth, most of the local district are significantly larger and are able and want to provide many, if not all, of the administrative services required by their own local district. Through the years, the County Offices (Educational Service Centers) of Ohio and their local districts have developed many different written or unwritten plans for administration, supervision and the provision of services involving the County Offices and the local schools.

Minutes Archived State Board Board Members Maryland State Board of Education The State Board of Education is the voice of the public in its role as policy maker for Maryland’s public schools, public libraries, and vocational rehabilitation services.
It solicits the views of interested groups and the public at large on all important issues. The State Board is a 12-member body appointed by the governor. Members bring to their task a wide range of professional and civic experience. Members serve staggered four-year terms and may serve two full terms. A student member serves a one-year term.
The state superintendent of schools is chosen by the Board for a four-year, renewable term and acts as its secretary-treasurer. She does not have a vote but does have an advisory role and is the administrative head of the State Department of Education.
The Board sets the state’s education policies and standards for pre-kindergarten through high school and for Maryland’s public libraries and correctional education and vocational rehabilitation services. It passes regulations that have the force of law and is empowered to interpret the true meaning and intent of the law. It also reviews and approves three annual budgets (the Department of Education headquarters budget, the state aid to local education budget, and state-aided institutions budget) before they’re passed on to the governor’s office for approval or revision and then to the General Assembly for final action. The Board is also required to decide all controversies brought before it that arise under the law. Traditionally, however, the Board tempers its considerable legal power with respect for the principle of local control of schools. Each of Maryland’s 24 school systems has its own board of education.
