Dance Therapy Dance Therapy prepares you to step into the "Dance of Life" Dance therapy is not about achieving defined forms of dance, but is concerned with genuine, creative movement. The objective is to re-establish the unity of body, mind and soul.
The increasing tendency towards isolation and growing estrangement in our society often results in emotional, mental and physical illness. Dance therapy helps people to rediscover themselves, thus achieving greater self-awareness and a sense of well-being. People can find their true inner self through authentic movement. They learn to love themselves and thus learn to love others. Dance therapy can be applied to all form of psychic and psychosomatic disorders. Through our own experience in movement and dance we are not only touched physically but also emotionally, mentally and spiritually. The human being makes contact with the conscious and unconscious parts of his personality, learns to accept them and to assimilate his experiences based on his personal history. Accompanying talks are of equal importance. The core of Petra Klein's work is the development of our capacity to love and build up relationships - the feeling of belonging to a joyful community. How these prerequisites are formed is made very clear through special dances with emphases on different developmental stages.

With a non-competetive philosophy of dance, the distinguished faculty of SOLAD develops dancers with a strong professional and emotional base. One of the greatest joys of teaching dance is to impart an understanding of the value of dance as an art form, which enhances one's personal growth. Through studying this art form, one develops a powerful tool for self-expression, and enhances everyday life skills such as problem solving, critical thinking, and teamwork. The joy of living in a body that is at its highest level of fitness is achievable and fun while taking classes that develop one's strength, flexibility, agility, conditioning, coordination, and grace. The benefits to society are innumerable. A community of people exposed to such artistic thinking and problem solving is a community of creative thinkers, tolerant to new ideas, with enhanced intellectual skills.
The child who has been exposed to dance has increased reading, math, and science skills, and enhanced ability to focus attention and harness the boundless energy toward positive goals.

What is Dance Therapy? The use of dance as a therapeutic tool is founded in the idea that body and mind are completely integrated. While the relationship between the mind and body is constantly being explored, theorised and discussed, the whole area certainly highlights the ingenuity of the creation and masterpiece in the human being.
The theory underlying dance therapy is that body movement reflects the inner state of the human, and that by moving the body within a guided therapeutic setting, a healing process begins. Emerging inner conflicts and issues from the unconscious to the consciousness of the person are addressed on all levels - physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. Seeking the full integration of mind and body, and bringing harmony between all the aforementioned levels of the human being is what dance therapy is all about. During this time (around World War II), the work of pioneers in psychoanalytic philosophy and thinking was also popular - in particular, Sigmund Freud and his followers, Alfred Adler, Carl Jung and Wilhelm Reich. Their work had a major influence on the understanding of the mind and emotions, and the different levels of consciousness in which these exist.
