By Rhythm - My Favourites By Rhythm - "Nonstrict" only By Rhythm Recommended ... Tempos Welcome to my Ballroom Dance Music web site. Here you'll find all the information I've collected over the years regarding ballroom dance music (both "strict" and "non-strict"). The information gathered here comes from my own experience as a competitor and from attending various completions, from various suppliers, and from articles in rec.arts.dance . The ratings/comments on various songs are my own and that of others (primarily that of Jay Dusenbury from his lists posted several years ago). Due to my own dancing experience, the information is oriented towards International Standard and Latin so you may not always agree with my classification/ratings of various tracks :-) I wish to thank Andy Fortuna Ballroom Blitz Music , and Pro Media Musik for giving me permission to make audio samples of their albums available on my site (just follow the animated audio icon). The information provided on these pages reflect my own opinion and that of other people around the world. If you do decide to purchase a album based on what you found here, make sure that you listen to it first. Your opinion may vary (do let me know in that case so that I can add your opinion). I am not responsible for any purchases that you make based on information found on my site. So there :-)

Dance music is music composed, played, or both, specifically to accompany social dancing . It can be either the whole musical piece or part of a larger musical arrangement. Dance music includes a huge variety of music, including traditional dance music such as Irish traditional music waltzes rock and roll country music and tangos . An example of traditional dance music in the United States is the old-time music played at square dances and contra dances From the late , the term dance music has come to also refer (in the context of nightclubs ) more specifically to electronic music offshoots of rock and roll , such as disco house techno and trance Generally, the difference between a disco, or any dance song, and a rock or general popular song is that in dance music the bass hits "four to the floor" at least once a beat (which in 4/4 time is 4 beats per measure), while in rock the bass hits on one and three and lets the snare take the lead on two and four (Michaels, 1990). Dance music works usually bear the name of the corresponding dance, e.g.

Electronic music
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
Electronic music Ambient Breakbeat Electronica Electronic art music ... Trance Electronic music is a loose term for music created using electronic equipment. Any sound produced by the means of an electrical signal may reasonably be called electronic, and the term is sometimes used that way in music where acoustic performance is the norm, even the introduction of electronic amplifiers may touch off discussions of electronic music ( jazz and folk music , for example, have gone through a good deal of argument about the topic). As a category of criticism and marketing, however, electronic music refers to music produced largely by electronic components, such as synthesizers samplers computers , and drum machines . Theoretically, the music could include any of an array of other "instruments". Electronic music may also be referred to as computer music because software has allowed manipulated sounds to be processed and sequenced digitally and conveniently, in contrast to analog synthesizers that use electrical hardware to manipulate signals.

How To Build A Local Scene - Part One
The building blocks of any scene are the people in it. The talent, events organizers, and anyone and everyone who gets involved to help out, show support, or show up at events. You can't have a scene without all the crucial elements - mainly people, talent, skills, equipment, and support - so building excitement and getting people involved is a major priority. What it comes down to is building community.

The Intelligent Dance Music Mailing List - Hosted by Hyperreal.org ABOUT THE LIST:
The IDM list was originally created in August of 1993 for the discussion of music relating to Aphex Twin and Warp's early "Artificial Intelligence" compilations. Since that time, both the list and the range of music that is discussed on it have grown considerably. As there is no set definition of the boundaries of "Intelligent Dance Music", the official stance is that all opinions are to be respected. That being said, when you declare that "Rozalla is intelligent dance music", you should be willing and able to back it up - not just "because it obviously is."
SUBSCRIPTION INFORMATION:
The IDM list currently comes in two flavors: Original, and Digest. Before joining the list, please read over the list policies below. In order to subscribe or unsubscribe, simply send a blank email to one of the addresses below and follow the directions of the emails that are sent to you.

Madonna : The And We Danced Profile
It is probably impossible to overestimate Madonna's impact on the history of Dance music. Although she did not emerge as a star until the early 80's, she has remained the most consistently successful and innovative Dance music artist for over 2 decades. Although her sales figures and success in mainstream Pop music has faded somewhat in recent years, she has arguably solidified her status in clubs. Madonna has been a leader in development of Dance music and also incorporated influences from a wide range of other artists to keep her own music fresh and invigorating. It would be a different Dance music world without Madonna. Madonna Louise Ciccone was born August 16, 1958 in Bay City, Michigan. In 1977 Madonna dropped out of college to move to New York to study with Alvin Ailey for a career as a dancer. By 1979... more And We Danced Daily

Early Medieval Dance Music
By Ellisif Flakkari
The earliest recorded dance music we have dates to the 13th century. For a span of about 150 years, several related forms appeared in Frnace, Italy, and England. No choreographies have survived, though several manuscripts containing music have. A rough description of the dances, written by Johannes de Grocheio (c. 1300), has also survived. This article describes the music for these dances and includes suggestions for arranging and performing these pieces. I have found that they are also fun to compose, and include two examples of compositions in the style of this music. Some general cautions should be applied when doing research in this area: while there are surviving pieces, there are too few to allow one to confidently draw conclusions. The pieces described in this article come from a repertoire of under two dozen pieces from three countries. This article describes the properties of those pieces, but we cannot know if all pieces of these types shared those properties.
Types of Dances
There are four related forms from this repertoire: the estampie, the istanpita, the ductia, and the nota.
