Side-by-Side Teacher Training Residency: Providing approximately 35 weeks of dance in three to five classrooms per school, the residency is divided into three components. A copy of Move! Learn! Dance! A K-6 Dance Teaching Resource Guide During the second phase of the residency, January to March, CDT faculty continue to meet with classroom teachers to collaborate on the development of integrated lesson plans. CDT faculty will demonstrate the use of this integrated curriculum in meeting educational goals in weekly movement classes. The dance specialist and the classroom teacher co-teach during these months, with the classroom teacher assuming as much lead in teaching as he or she is comfortable with. The dance specialist works with the teacher to support his/her skill level, and encourages them to take on greater teaching roles. In the third and final phase of the residency, classroom teachers take a leadership role in developing the integrated lesson plans and teaching the class. The dance specialist continues to be present at each class, participating, and stepping in as needed to ensure a positive learning outcome. By the end of the third phase, the classroom instructor will have developed the skills and abilities needed to design an integrated curriculum. Through this experience, it is hoped that the teacher will continue to implement an integrated lesson plan with future classes. Culminating the CDT experience in each school, students will enjoy at least one performing experience in which they demonstrate for their parents and/or peers their dance and choreographic skills.

Nataraj: Shiva as Lord of the Dance
Developed by Jean Johnson, New York University.
Introduction: Art is an excellent aid when someone is trying to understand complex ideas from another culture. The Nataraj, Lord Shiva and Lord of the Dance, offers a visual summary of several of the most important ideas in Hinduism. Learning to identify the various aspects of the image can help students understand several of the central tenets of Hinduism. As the curator of the Indian collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art has written: "If one had to select a single icon to represent the extraordinarily rich and complex cultural heritage of India, the Shiva Nataraj might well be the most remunerative candidate. It is such a brilliant iconographic invention that it comes as close to being a summation of the genius of the Indian people as any single icon can. " Ultimately, in Hinduism, there is only one reality, often identified as Brahman. Brahman encompasses all there is in the universe, and everything that isn't, as well. Beyond form or formlessness, it cannot be spoken of with words nor does it possess any characteristics. Because Brahman, the One without second, without form and yet not formless, is difficult to understand, Hindus sometimes just say "Neti-neti", meaning that for anything we can name, Brahman is "Not that, not this." Representations of divinity are like signposts (to use Joseph Campbell's phrase); they point the devotee toward the mystery of Brahman; they are not it.

The Basic information allows the teacher to immediately identify the theme, topic and materials. Outcomes are stated for each of the multidimensional syllabi. The Teaching/learning Steps and Procedures involve three components. The personalisation phase allows learners to consider their own experiences and attitudes about the subject under consideration. The contextualisation phase offers key information about the communicative situation and the nature of the text. Regarding the communicative situation students should know who is communicating with whom, for what reason, in what relationship (eg., mother-daughter, boss-employee, friend-friend). The nature of the text should be made clear by indicating certain key discourse characteristics (eg. poems may have uneven lines and atypical punctuation; letters usually have formulaic openings and closings). Teachers will also encourage learners to use their knowledge of similar texts from their mother tongue. Employed effectively, these two components, personalization and contextualisation, permit learners to anticipate new information.

In 100 pages, 16 rhythmic dance steps illustrated and described,
plus 9 little dances, 18 - ABA and other sequencing combinations, and 4 advanced group dances - for learning kinesthetically about math sets, sequencing, and language phrasing and rhythms. Can be adapted for special needs children.
Introduction This is an educational site, begun in 1965 when I began creating texts in a collection called Rhythmic Movement Dance Series Offered for children in the format of ballet, modern dance and rhythmic movement, with some material for adults and those challenged, collections include choreography, dance elements and lesson plans, all with the aim of developing basic body-mind coordination. One collection offers tips for adaptive teaching. I have taken my dance and music education into the classroom to teach children how to move to clapping and percussion instruments, and to the rhythms, phrases and melodies of music and song. Through the somatic process of moving their bodies enthusiastically, dynamically and rhythmically in time through space in the classroom and outdoors, the students have learned basic academic skills of patterns and rhythms in language, reading, math, and the social skills of cooperation and collaboration. These publications in HTML and PDF may be downloaded for personal use, but not commercially without
