Curry/Samara Model (CSM) Overview helps educators to understand and use strategies related to curriculum, instruction and assessment. After attending a CSM overview, participants will be able to work more collaboratively with colleagues to implement strategies that bring about increased levels of student performance. For an indepth discussion of CSM, please see our articles. Administrative Awareness Work-Sessions involve one day of administrator training and discussion. This workshop option is an excellent way to allow building and district administrators to learn about the Curry/Samara Model of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment, and to discuss ways in which implementation might unfold within selected schools or across the entire district. Unit Writing Institutes are designed to help educators incorporate their state standards into dynamic instructional units and lesson plans. Institutes are typically scheduled to take place over a period of one to four days, depending on the agency's desired outcomes. During the Institute, participants use UnitWriter software which: (1) has state standards built in for six states (with more to come) - just point and click; (2) is very easy to learn - even novice computer users enjoy the technical expertise they gain. We also have tools to post units on the Internet for sharing across campuses.

What we need are activities in the classroom and out of the classroom where the teacher / guide is learning at the same time as the kids Unless this happens LEARNERS are limited by how adults were taught when they went to school and now by example teach today which is totally different situation because of computers and the internet. There is a new concept of what kind of educational materials and activities should go into the school, home, or community learning center. The teacher / guide needs to be excited, having fun and learning right along with the student, at the same time.

Table of Contents About Meridian Resources Archive WebQuests in the Middle School Curriculum: Promoting Technological Literacy in the Classroom Kenneth Lee Watson University of Virginia "…technological literacy must include a wide range of opportunities for students to interact with a variety of tools and resources in order to develop a level of competence that will allow them to use technology effectively and productively in the workplace." Introduction O n January 27, 1998, the president's State of the Union Address (Clinton, 1998) included a ten point plan calling for, among other things, to "connect every classroom and library to the Internet by the year 2000 and help students become technologically literate." The president's focus on the use of technology in the classroom setting and promoting technological literacy among our students echoes the concern of many educators. Raizen, Sellwood, Todd, and Vickers (1995) suggest that technological literacy must include a wide range of opportunities for students to interact with a variety of tools and resources in order to develop a level of competence that will allow them to use technology effectively and productively in the workplace. Over the course of the last 20 years, educators have been inundated with new programs and methods aimed at integrating new technologies with classroom curriculum. Many discussions have centered around attempts to determine the most effective uses of technology in the classroom. From these discussions additional questions continue to be generated. How can we harness this technology for educative purposes? How can this technology enhance middle school education? What are the most effective approaches to integrating technology with curriculum so that it provides the greatest benefit for students?

Using Arthur Programs in the Classroom

Using the Arthur Web site in the Classroom

Introduction
Based on the children's books by Marc Brown, Arthur is an animated series for 4- to 8-year-olds that premiered in 1996. The series details the sometimes comic, sometimes emotional adventures of Arthur and his family and friends through engaging stories that explore issues faced by real kids. The series' goals are to help foster an interest in reading and writing, and to encourage the development of positive social skills. Arthur was one of the first ongoing animated programs based on a book series when it premiered. Since then, it has been among the most popular children's programs on television and has garnered a wide range of awards, including the prestigious George Foster Peabody Award and three Daytime Emmy's for Outstanding Children's Animated Program. In fact, in 2002, TV Guide ranked Arthur among the "50 Greatest Cartoon Characters of All Time." The Arthur series is supported by a wide range of educational materials, which are accessible from the Web site. And of course, the Arthur book series is a wonderful addition to any class library, allowing you to take advantage of the popularity of the programs to encourage your students to read.
