    Teaching: Curriculum Development
While I was at the University of Oregon, I created a program in networking for both undergraduates and graduates. My goal in designing this curriculum was to help students to understand both the principles and the practices of computer networks, with a particular emphasis on the Internet. I plan to continue developing courses at BYU. Computer science is a fast-developing field, and students should have the latest knowledge available in order to be successful in the future professions.
Courses Developed at the University of Oregon
CIS 432/532 Introduction to Computer Networks
Helps students understand how to design a computer network, with examples drawn from experience building the Internet. Discusses the principles of network design, using a top-down approach and focusing on technologies used in the Internet. Topics include application-layer networking, transport protocols (TCP and UDP), routing protocols, IP, packet switching, and link-level protocols. Programming assignments cover socket programming and reinforce the lecture topics.
