Place an ad OUR AFFILIATES 'American Dreams' strikes timely chord Friday, July 26, 2002 By JOHN LEVESQUE SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER TELEVISION CRITIC The reasons why a TV show makes it onto a network's schedule are as myriad as Dick Clark's productions over the years, so no one should be surprised that a change in the national mood might be a factor. Networks will leap at any opportunity to generate a hit. But what are the chances "American Bandstand" would figure in one of the most promising new series in network development? A year ago, perhaps not so good. Today, not so surprising. Jonathan Prince, executive producer of the series "American Dreams," had already spoken with NBC about his idea for a show centering on a Philadelphia family in the early 1960s when the events of Sept. 11 put everyone's life on hold. A week later, as Prince remembers it, an NBC executive called him and said, "I think your script just became a lot more relevant."
