127th Running of the Preakness Stakes
The Preakness Stakes has remained throughout history a true test of a horse's ability and class, a race where remarkable horses meet one another other in a great classic. The phrase "Triple Crown" was not coined until the 1930's, but it is this race on the third Saturday in May where the best of the Derby horses gather to see if there will be that window of opportunity for a Triple Crown prospect. Much goes on during this colorful time at Pimlico, but it has always been the horse that draws the fans. As poet Ogden Nash wrote: "The Derby is a race of aristocratic sleekness, for horses of birth to prove their worth to run in the Preakness."

Database error in retieving stories. More News The 2005 season featured improvement in many areas from the previous campaign. Despite finishing the season with a 6-9 overall record, a two-game improvement from a year ago, and a 2-5 league mark the Dutchmen took another step toward reaching their goals. Union’s improvements were not measured in wins and losses or playoff appearances though. They increased goal production by 18 percent from a year ago while causing a three percent drop in goals by the opposition. Union also collected 94 more ground balls and held opponents to 53 fewer. The Dutchmen continued to make improvements in 2005 on the little things that lead to the making of a successful program. They got things started off with a season-opening win at home against Kings Point, a team that defeated them in overtime the previous year. Union then hit the road for its next three games, finishing 1-2, before its spring break trip in Florida. The lone win came in overtime against RIT (12-11).
