NASA Unveils New Crew Exploration Vehicle
Finally, it appears we are returning to the moon. Not as soon as many of us would have liked, but the wheels of NASA often turn slowly.
NASA now says it hopes to put humans on the Lunar surface again by the year 2018, and this time, we're going to stay, building outposts and paving the way for eventual journeys to Mars and beyond. NASA says, "it won't be your grandfather's moon shot."
NASA's new spaceship is the centerpiece to making the Vision for Space Exploration a reality. Read more

Welcome to the Haines Borough School District Providing our children with a quality education for life The following news articles originally appeared in and have been reprinted with the permission of the Chilkat Valley News Haines students rank 4th in state - 11/4/2004
By Bonnie Hedrick Haines schools ranked near the top in a recent survey of Alaskan school districts’ performance on standardized tests. The tests, administered to third through twelfth graders, are mandated by the federal No Child Left Behind Act and include language and math components. Among 55 Alaskan districts, Haines students ranked fourth. Only Skagway, Cordova and Petersburg scored higher. The Juneau school district ranked 14th and Chatham School District, which includes Klukwan School, 41st. "You could say we’re the fourth smartest" in the state, superintendent Woody Wilson said. "It’s something we need to promote. I don’t think the community realizes the school district is doing such a good job."

Scouting was created because Scouting founders believed that young boys, mainly in the cities, were not learning basic survival skills that they would need during any future military service.

Forced Return of Montagnard Asylum Seekers The United States views with concern the forced return of 94 Montagnards from Cambodia to Vietnam on July 20. We have raised U.S. objections to this involuntary repatriation with both the governments of Cambodia and Vietnam. We are disappointed that these individuals were repatriated before an internationally-staffed monitoring program was in place in the Central Highlands of Vietnam and before other solutions could be considered for these individuals. We urge the Government of Vietnam to immediately allow international monitors to observe Montagnard returnees in the Central Highlands of Vietnam. US Department of State - Press Statement
