Fall Fest at Marra Farm
Join Lettuce Link and the Marra Farm Coalition on Saturday, October 1st from Noon - 3:00 pm in celebrating another abundant year at Marra Farm! There will be farm tours, games for the kids and tasty treats. Bring the whole family. Marra Farm is located in South Park at 9026 4th Ave S, just south of Cloverdale St. For directions, click here. If you have fruit trees in your yard, you probably know that it can be a challenge to use all the fruit that one tree produces. If you have trees that produce more healthy fruit than you can eat, our Lettuce Link program just might be able to do you a favor by putting your unneeded fruit to good use by distributing it to local food banks. Depending on when fruit ripens this year, the Fruit Tree Harvest will likely run from August 17th through November 5th. We need to identify fruit tree owners who are willing to participate. Plus, we are looking for volunteers to pick, and transport the fresh fruit. For more information and/or to get involved:

Current Events Challenges
Use these suggestions for school projects that will stand out.
Newsweek PAST CURRENT EVENTS CHALLENGES In this week's cover story, " Toxic Strength ," psychologists point to a syndrome called "muscle dysmorphia," which is sometimes called reverse anorexia.
  • According to the story, how do teens with this syndrome feel about their bodies? How is this similar to the way victims of anorexia feel about themselves?
Working with your school's nurse, counseling department or coaching staff, write a script in which two teens discuss their body image at this stage in their lives and the risks they might take in dealing with that image. Use the script to role-play the scenario for a school athletic club or team. In a sidebar to this week's cover story, reporter Mark Starr makes some proposals to Major League Baseball , which may have a public relations nightmare on its hands with recent revelations about the use of steroids among its players. One of his proposals: a public-relations campaign aimed at teens who may seek to emulate their athletic heroes. Working with a central slogan, design one aspect of that campaign, such as the script for a 60-second television advertisement, a Web site or posters for distribution in schools.
This week's cover story, "

Illegal immigrants affected by Hurricane Katrina should have "protected humanitarian status," representatives of Latin American and Caribbean communities said Tuesday in an appeal to the White House. The groups said the protection is needed because immigrants fearing deportation, including some with U.S.-born children, are not seeking help at shelters because officials are asking for Social Security numbers in order to enter. "The immigrants are the invisible victims of the hurricane," said Gloria Saucedo, of Hermandad Mexicana of Los Angeles, Calif., whose group is a member of the National Alliance of Latin American and Caribbean Communities, which is pushing for immigration...

Born in 1892 to former slaves, Gabriel and Huldah McLendon, Sarah was the tenth of 11 children of this poor family in rural Seney in northwest Georgia. At age 4, Sarah's mother died and she took on the role of mother for her younger sibling James, a nurturing role that would encompass Sarahs future. Sarah was bright and a fast learner and by age 12 was earning money for her family by selling mail-order flavorings, helping her father and stepmother purchase a 20-acre tract of land. Though this was a time when African-American women were not encouraged to pursue an education, Sarah had a hunger for knowledge to learn and to teach and went as far as she could in a nearby country school before leaving for Rome to attend an industrial school for blacks. During the summers she traveled Polk County, teaching as many as 100 pupils at a time and helping to establish four schools. Sarah wanted to attend what she called the Abig Negro University complex at Spelman Seminary, later called Spelman College, and her brother James worked on the railroad to help her get there.

The Secret Life of Bill Clinton : The Unreported Stories

by Ambrose Evans-Pritchard

When it comes to Clinton scandals, Ambrose Evans-Pritchard consistently gets the biggest stories first.
"For the past decade one of the greatest journalists covering America has been Ambrose Evans-Pritchard. No one has developed wider contacts regarding the botches and scandals of American government. No one has written more elegantly and intelligently." R. Emmett Tyrrell, Jr., Editor-In-Chief, The American Spectator
Now Evans-Pritchard is breaking the biggest scoop of all: an assiduously documented expose of the crimes that have made the Clinton presidency easily the most corrupt in history.
- Was the Oklahoma City bombing a government sting operation that flew out of control when the stingers were outstung? Evans-Pritchard tells the story that the FBI and Justice Department don't want you to know.
- Eyewitnesses to corruption in Clinton's Arkansas - many have met with brutal harassment, physical intimidation, and, in some cases, even suspicious death. Those who survived tell Evans-Pritchard their story.

The Role of Brainwashing in Current Events By Karima Burns, MH, ND Perhaps the most difficult thing the average Muslim deals with on a daily basis since September 11 th is the massive brainwashing techniques and programs being employed by both Islamic extremists as well as the American government. So have you fallen victim to a brainwashing technique? You may be surprised to find out you have without even knowing it. To begin with, one must first state the most basic of all facts about brainwashing: In the entire history of man, no one has ever been brainwashed and realized, or believed, that he had been brainwashed. Those who have been brainwashed will usually passionately defend their manipulators, claiming they have simply been "shown the light" or have been transformed in miraculous ways (Sutphen).
