Alpha Nutrition Programs The majority of health problems are food-related; so these problems get a lot of our attention. There are two aspects to nutrition:
  • the normal play of nutrients in the body the real story of complex food-body interactions with disease-causing problems.
  • The information and insights offered at this web site are intended to clarify some of the complex issues of food and nutrition and bring you to a practical strategy of solving health problems through nutritional therapy. Food is the most intimate part of the environment because we ingest it. When something goes wrong, it makes good sense to look at the flow of substances through the mouth for the source of the problem. We look not only at the composition of the food but also, and more importantly, at the interaction of the ingested molecules with body. Adverse reactions to food are common and produce many disturbances by a variety of mechanisms. Diagnosing adverse reactions to food is an important task of clinical medicine, despite the fact that it is not currently taught in medical schools.

Older news items have been archived on the News Archive pages: Bush renominates Roberts to take Chief Justice seat
Bypassing current Supreme Court justices, and thus avoiding an extra set of confirmation hearings, President Bush today nominated John Roberts, already scheduled for confirmation hearings for an associate justiceship, to replace William Rehnquist as Chief Justice. By tradition, though not by the Constitution, the Chief Justice has been separately nominated by the President. To have elevated a current justice, like Clarence Thomas or Antonin Scalia, to Chief would have required two sets of hearings - one for the promotion and one to replace the promoted justice - in addition to those already scheduled for Roberts. Roberts had clerked for Rehnquist earlier in his career. Officially, Roberts will now be taking Rehnquist's seat and not retiring justice Sandra O'Connor. O'Connor has vowed to stay with the Court until her seat is filled. William Rehnquist dies at age 80
Chief Justice William Rehnquist, appointed to the Supreme Court in 1971 by Richard Nixon, died today in his home in Virginia. Rehnquist was 80 years old and suffering from recurring bouts of throat cancer. Rehnquist was known as a strong conservative voice on the Court. Rumors that Rehnquist would resign from the Court because of his health echoed for over a year in Washington, but were continually stifled by Rehnquist himself as he returned to work again and again, ever after having a tracheotomy tube inserted in his throat. Rehnquist had a summer home in Greensboro, Vermont and was frequently seen giving civics talks in local Vermont towns.

The Supreme Court could soon experience a dramatic change in its balance of power between its liberal and conservative factions due to several key events that have unfolded over the past few months. The events began back in July when Justice Sandra Day O'Connor announced her plans to retire from the Court effective upon the nomination and confirmation of a successor. Shortly after this announcement, President Bush nominated conservative jurist John G. Roberts Jr. to replace O'Connor, and most recently, a second seat opened on the Court's bench when Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist passed away on September 3, 2005.

Current news stories - from the publishers/networks Most major news sources, newspapers, magazines, and radio and television networks, publish current issues online. Usually, but not always, the full text of the current issue (and some very recent ones) of print publications is freely available. Older issues (at least older than one week) are often available only at a cost. Advantages of using the publication's website include access to photographs and diagrams (especially important in science materials), advertisements (classified ads in local newspapers), and local supplements, and a familiar 'newspaper-like' arrangement. Very limited free coverage, less than efficient search mechanisms, and omnipresent advertisements are among the disdvantages. News resource collections - subscription databases Several vendors collect and publish full-text versions of a variety of national, international, regional and local news publications. Some resources are general in scope, while others focus on particular types of resources. The periods of time covered for publications vary - usually the earliest coverage begins in the 1980s, with many publications not being available in full-text until the 1990s.

I am a 32 year old PHILHELLENE (lover of Greece) from Massachusetts, a vegetarian, Pisceas, civil/environmental engineer, and avid animal lover. My favorite place in the world is Greece. For those of you who are Greek, you should understand my reasoning without me having to explain, and for those of you who are not, I will try. Culture, Tradition, Family Ties, Passion.......(not to mention Scenery, Food, Music, Dance, and History) are the words that come to my mind. These are all the things that make my heart beat, feel bliss, passion, and peace at the same time. If you didn't understand my reasoning, I do not apologize.....simply go to Greece to experience it for yourself! Or, understand what I am saying by knowing and acknowledging that you have found "your" place in the world that gives you the same feelings.
