RESERVE A CABIN Since 1977, guests of Snowshoe Country have been enjoying the serenity of this rustic camp overlooking picturesque Sand Lake. Located 25 miles southeast of Ely, Minnesota - just outside the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCA) - the camp is the ideal retreat for those yearning to escape to a more natural landscape. Many guests of Snowshoe Country enjoy exploring trails on adjacent lands, the old logging roads north of here toward Ely or Isabella, or snowshoeing and skiing the State trails in the Sand Lake Peatlands Scientific and Natural Area on the west side of Sand Lake. Atop a gravel and rock glacial esker crowned with cedars, pines, birches and balsam firs, in an area with an elevation of nearly 2,000 feet, we experience the earliest and heaviest snowfalls in the region.
Last year Snowshoe Country became an official daily snow and rain measuring station for the Minnesota Climatological Network.
