Bulletin Board or call the Nordic Hotline at (970) 429-2039) The Moore Trail offers a technical 1.5 Km loop and access to the High School Trail from the Aspen Golf Course trails. Pyramid Peak looms in the background. The Aspen/Snowmass Nordic Trail System is unique to North America because it links two towns (Aspen and Snowmass Village) via the Owl Creek Trail which meanders through meadows, wooded areas and crosses three distinct valleys. In addition, the system has trails east of Aspen on the North Star Nature Preserve , along the Roaring Fork River, adjacent to the Aspen High School and the Aspen Valley Ski Club training building. It has trails adjacent to the Snowmass Aspen Golf Course and one on the Snowmass Golf Course . The combination of the varied, entertaining ski trails, wonderful vistas, amenities of trail-side cross-country centers, restaurants, athletic clubs and training facilities makes the Aspen/Snowmass Nordic Trail System really very unique and rewarding to ski and snowshoe on. This trail system is also the largest free groomed cross-country ski system in North America. There are 60 kilometers of groomed skiing available in this trail system. The majority of the system is groomed for both classic and skate skiing although there are some trails that are classic-only. Grooming is done with either small Pisten Bully snowcats or snowmobiles. This is a true winter trail system and does encourage snowshoe use on all of its trails although walkers, runners and bicyclists are not permitted.

Preface
The material for this guide was first compiled in 1975. Since then it has gone through several revisions. In future years, it's likely to go through more as new trails are located andthanks to the Park and Ski Programmore ski parking access is plowed. Through the years, a number of skiers have provided information which has been incorporated into this guide, and we'd like to thank and recognize the following: Tom Amberson, Dave Arcano, Charles Blount, Bob Butler, H. Hilbert, Ray Hunter, Carl Linderman and Al Taylor. We'd also like to thank Gateway Cyclery, Raven's Nest and Scott's Ski Shop who have always been strong supporters of cross-country skiing in our area. Whether it's been helping with ski trail signing or sponsoring ski races and other community events, they've always been willing to lend a hand. By supporting them and buying locally, you're helping the community and brightening the ski opportunities in our area.

Cross-country Ski Conditions The Cross-country Ski Season is now over. There are more than 190 kilometres of cross-country ski trails to maintain in Gatineau Park. The snow is manually and mechanically compacted, levelled, reconditioned and groomed throughout the winter to provide the kind of ski conditions you want. How often we work on the trails, as well as what type of machinery we use, depends on snow conditions. As a rule, main trails (about 100 kilometres) are groomed four times over seven days. Trails that are considered secondary are groomed once or twice per week. After each new snowfall of five centimetres or more, compacting and grooming start all over again for the main trail network. We do our best to make the main trails completely usable within 24 hours of a snowfall. Some of the main trails have been designated "priority one" trails. These are the ones the maintenance crew focuses on when the weather is difficult. The order of priority for the trails has been determined by access points (such as parking lots) and links to various destinations in the Park (such as shelters, cabins and main attractions, like lookouts).
