It traces its origins to the beginning of the 20th century when professor Rudolphe Reiss gave a course in judicial photography in what became the first school in the world to teach forensic science. To this day the school is one of the few in Europe to offer a complete training in criminal studies. Forensic science is at the crossroads of many disciplines (e.g. the pure and applied sciences, law, social science, technology) in so far as they have a legal application. The study of crime detection, forensic science and criminology, criminal policy and criminal law focus on a phenomenon of society - crime and its abuses - and on the means of fighting, preventing, or curbing it.
