How Does Email Work? Are There Guidelines for Us ing Email Can I Only Send Plain Text Messages via Email? What is the Difference Between a Mailing List and a Listserv? A re there some useful criminal justice discussion lists? What Legal and Crime Issues Have Emerged with the Use of Email?
Overview
Email is the most frequently used Internet tool, what computer geeks like to call a true "killer app " meaning someone might get on a computer just to use it. A good understanding of the basics of email use can improve student to student or worker to worker interaction. However, since email is only written text, without voice, eye, or body gestures to indicate nuances, miscommunication can occur. Using email netiquette can help avoid this.

Other lists are optional (e.g. forum@crim.unimelb.edu.au ) or for groups within the department.

  • Please include your name, title and email address at the end of each message - not everyone may know who you are or what you do! Attachments above a fairly small size will bounce; If you want to send a "me too" type message, please send it to the originator, not to the list.

NOTE: Listservs on this page are undergoing review. Please be patient with errors In general, sending e-mail to one of the addresses below and writing only the words "subscribe" followed by a space then the name of the particular mailing list you're interested in the message area of your mailer, will let you sign-on. However, a few systems may require your name and/or email address to follow the name of the list some of these systems automatically return mail to you giving correct instructions, others do not. Where they known, the sign-on commands will be listed below. To be safe, your can find out how to sign-on a list by sending a message to the system address (e.g. listserv@domain.name) and placing only the word "help" in the message area. The system will mail you instructions and general information. Clicking on the list name in the following descriptions should open your mailer to the appropriate address for you to either subscribe or ask for "help". Amnesty : listproc@listserv.acns.nwu.edu :
