This page compiles links to sites dealing with criminal justice; corrections and life inside a prison; restorative justice; crime prevention; victims of crime; juvenile delinquency; and law enforcement. I have also included government and media sites that you may want to look at as well. Links to grad programmes in criminology at Canadian Universities can also be accessed from this page. There are no full text docs on this page - only links to sites related to criminal justice and criminology issues in some way. At the bottom of this page, there are some links to up-coming conferences and congresses that might be of interest. The focus is on Canadian sites, but I have included other sites in cases where I couldn't find enough links to Canadian sources. I will not be able to update these pages for the next little while as I am about to lose net access. Once that is restored, I will begin updating again and I will also re-activate an email link for suggestions, comments, etc. Click on any of the following for a list of links on that topic.

    Abstract
Publicity has recently been given to the problem of advance fee fraud, particularly involving a group of Nigerian nationals. This paper examines the nature of this phenomenon, explains the reasons behind its development and investigates the way in which its occurrence has escalated. It also examines how traditional law enforcement measures have been of limited effectiveness in controlling it.

With the rise of proactive approaches to resolving community crime problems, Environmental Criminology has increasingly become an important area of study. Theories such as Rational Choice, and Routine Activities are useful frameworks by which to understand the occurrence of crime and disorder. Spatially oriented perspectives, like the Crime Pattern Theory, provide explanations for crime concentration. These theories enable us to better understand the dynamics of crime situations; thereby, providing a solid foundation from which effective crime prevention strategies can be developed. The mission of the Crime Prevention Analysis Lab-California State University, San Bernardino is to support and conduct research focusing on public space, through grants and contracts, with a variety of tools and methods not commonly used within criminal justice. Research will involve the Blended Approach to crime analysis incorporating both community-wide crime mapping and place intensive methods. The purpose is to: provide a comprehensive problem dissection from which solutions can be developed; assist agencies and community groups in the process of developing solutions; conduct evaluations of crime prevention strategies; and, disseminate best practices.

Criminology can be viewed as an integrated approach to the study of crime and it combines elements of knowledge from a variety of disciplines. Students of criminology are exposed to a wide variety of theories of criminal behavior as well as to a diverse range of analysis of the criminal justice system. By Wayne Petherick
    Introduction
The investigative technique, most commonly referred to as criminal profiling, has recently risen in popularity both in practical use and media portrayals. A quick visit to any bookstore will reveal the popularity of the true crime section, and the recent flood of fiction works with a likable lead detective who profiles the offender is equal in volume. Depending on the literature one reads, the professional development of profiling over the past several decades will most likely be attributed to the work of the Behavioral Sciences Unit (BSU) at the FBI Academy, Quantico, Virginia. More specifically, a few key agents will be known by name, if not by reputation, including John Douglas, Robert Ressler and Roy Hazelwood amongst others. Many of the mass-market conceptions often include an agent as a representative of the BSU working on the case with local law enforcement. While the role of the Bureau in the development of profiling cannot be denied, they are often afforded a greater involvement in criminal investigations than they have in reality, and many of the agents (current and retired) are often attributed with developing methods that were in place before they even reached the FBI.
