COURSE DESCRIPTION This course provides an overview of the major criminological theories.  We will begin by defining crime and evaluating different ways of measuring crime.  Most of the course will be dedicated to presenting and evaluating theories of criminal behavior at the individual, neighborhood and structural level.  We will also examine the policy prescriptions associated with each theoretical perspective.  The focus throughout the course will be on developing critical thinking skills when evaluating and critiquing theory, policy and research on crime.
