CRIME PREVENTION PROGRAM
Neighborhood Block Watch The Neighborhood Block Watch Program has proven to decrease residential burglary and crime in active and participating areas since the program began in March 1985. The purpose of a Block Watch is to increase communication between you and your neighbors with the agreement to become more watchful of neighborhood activities. A neighborhood Representative works with the Crime Prevention Officer to organize and host a Block Watch meeting in their area. The area can consist of 10-20 private homes, or can be a condominium or apartment community. The first Block Watch meeting will include information on the physical security of your home, security systems, marking your property for Operation Identification and, working with your police to report suspicious activity. After organizing your Block Watch, Operation ID window stickers are provided and a Block Watch Sign will be installed on your street. Block Watch Newsletters containing information of interest to members are created by the Crime Prevention Officer (CPO), and mailed twice yearly. Approximately every three months, additional information on burglary statistics, or crimes of interest will be mailed to the Representatives to be shared with the members.
