Community crime prevention grants
Under NT Crime Prevention, $400,000 is allocated each year to grants to support community crime prevention and community safety activities. Grants are provided for worthwhile, innovative and creative crime prevention and community safety programs which address any or all of the key crime prevention themes identified in Building Safer Communities . Evaluation and reporting requirements required of successful applicants help to identify programs that have the potential for application in other areas.
Regional and Indigenous Crime Prevention Councils
Regional and Indigenous Crime Prevention Councils have been established across the Northern Territory to ensure Government remains in touch with crime prevention issues at a community and regional level. The Councils stimulate and sustain community involvement in crime prevention, and provide advice to Government on what's working in crime prevention in each Territory region. Membership of the Councils is drawn from all areas of life: all tiers of Government (including police), business representatives, community organisations and volunteer groups. Indigenous Crime Prevention Councils have been established in some Indigenous communities. The Councils work in partnership with Government agencies and may be involved with community safety issues, community planning, management and improvement of services such as the Safe House program, night patrols, diversionary programs for young offenders, input to court sentencing processes, drug and substance abuse education through schools, and law and justice planning in their respective communities.

Overview
Get to know the Office of Crime Prevention The Northern Territory Government formally launched the Office of Crime Prevention and NT Crime Prevention on 25 February 2002. NT Crime Prevention is about building partnerships against crime across the Northern Territory. Protection, punishment and prevention are the three cornerstones of NT Crime Prevention. Effective law enforcement and strong deterrence are the key to the fight against crime and the role of the Northern Territory Police is paramount in preventing crime and responding when it occurs. But to be effective crime prevention needs a broad approach. It must not only attack crime when it happens but also attack its causes. Effective crime prevention must harness all the resources of government and the community. top of page The resources Government has committed to this important activity demonstrate Government's commitment to crime prevention. $6.7 million over four years has been allocated to resourcing NT Crime Prevention and the Office of Crime Prevention. Government has increased funding, to $400,000 each year over the next three years, to community crime prevention grants for community and regional groups.

In recent years, Mexico has been confronted with a major security crisis. Crime and insecurity have replaced environmental pollution as the second public priority after the country’s economy. More than a year ago, the ``white walk`` gathered more than a million people in the streets of Mexico as a sign of protest against violence and insecurity. According to journalist and former US national security advisor, Anna Maria SALAZAR , Mexico has reported the highest rate of kidnappings and imprisonments, exceeding the rate that was reported in Irak. In recent years, States located north of the American border have been facing major problems related to violence, in particular cases of homicide related to drug trafficking.
