This is a vast area stretching over 21.78 million square kilometers with a varied climate occupied mostly by arid desert zones and humid tropical rain forest. Although most African countries gained their independence during the 1960s, many, under the influence of agricultural management during the colonial period, have inherited a monocultural structure with their economic foundations resting on specific primary products. The effects of drought and other changes in the natural environment and of fluctuations in international markets are therefore liable to have immediate repercussions on the economic foundations of the state and result in fragile economic structures. Restricted access to education means that national development has had to go ahead with limitations on the human resources required for nation-building. Since independence, African countries have thus had to face countless difficulties on the path to socioeconomic development.

Reference Resources - Genealogy
Genealogy is currently a popular hobby in the United States, and individuals of all ages seek the Library's resources to answer questions about this absorbing topic. Keyword searching the on-line ISU Library Catalog is an excellent way to view or locate information about genealogy in our library. To do this, point your web browser to the Library Homepage at http://www.lib.iastate.edu and click on Library Catalog. This will bring up a screen titled: ISU Library Catalog: Basic Search which is preset for general keyword searching. Since keyword searching using just the word genealogy will yield over 500 records, researchers will want to combine some other keywords with that term. For example, genealogy and records, or genealogy and research methods, or genealogy and poland could be used. Both novice and veteran researchers may also find it worthwhile to simply browse certain areas of the ISU Library. Depending upon the needs or interests of the researcher, browsing the stacks may serve as a valuable overview of available resources. Physically browsing the stacks often results in the discovery of that one book or source the researcher has always hoped to run across, or, unaware of its existence, never thought to search for in the Library Catalog. Here are some suggested call number areas in either the Reference Collection or the General Collection that may prove helpful.

Census Online
: The 1901 British census was posted on the internet on the 1st January 2001. The Public Record Office says it will be invaluable for people all over the world who want to trace their British ancestors. Margaret Brennand, from the Public Record Office, said: "A huge amount of work has gone into taking the original census forms, scanning them, creating digital images and a comprehensive index to enable people to search for more than 32 million individuals living in England and Wales in 1901." The database also includes details of over 6 million properties. A basic search of the site will be free of charge but to download a census image will cost 75p per page. The initiative is part of the PRO's wider effort, Census Online, which aims to digitise all the earlier censuses before 1901. Family Search : Maintained by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, this is a massive resource for anyone studying family history. As well as providing access to over 600 million names via the International Genealogical Database, it includes church, census, legal and military records. The website also provides a very good online research guide on searching for your ancestors.

74. Genealogy Of Quorn (Quorndon) Village, Leicestershire, England
Information on the genealogy of Quorn Village in Leicestershire, England. Politically, countries within Europe are moving towards a common state,
http://www.quorndon.com/genealogy/location-guide.html
Quorn Village - A Quick Geographical Guide Quorn is one of a large number of terrestrial villages on this good-looking planet. It lies in the Northern Hemisphere, on a large island called Great Britain. Great Britain is part of a much larger geographical area called Europe.
Politically, countries within Europe are moving towards a common state, and most European countries are already using the same currency. At the moment, lots of different languages are spoken throughout Europe, but English is predominantly spoken in Britain. The reddy-brown island on the right map shows mainland Britain.
Great Britain's history has been pretty wild. It's been invaded loads of times over the last few thousand years, but things have settled down quite a bit since then. It was once the most northern point of the Roman empire, and substantial parts of a stone wall still exist in the north. The Romans were very pragmatic - they couldn't conquer the Scots and there was little they wanted from Scotland, so they simply built a wall from the east coast to the west coast (some history books say it was built from the west coast to the east coast). Today it would be much more difficult to get planning agreement. The red dot on the map on the left shows the approximate position of Quorn Village - more on that later.
Great Britain is comprised of three countries - England, Scotland, and Wales. People born in these countries are English, Scottish, or Welsh. These are all part of one island. The United Kingdom (UK) comprises Great Britain and Northern Ireland, part of the large island off the coast to the west. The Republic of Ireland (shown light-green) is not actually part of the UK, but English is generally spoken there, and they serve the best Guinness in the world. Irish girls are also extremely pretty.

THE UNITED KINGDOM AND IRELAND
The UK and Ireland are regarded, for the purposes of this Genealogical Information Service, as being made up of England Ireland (i.e. Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland Wales , and Scotland , together with the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man . Together, these constitute the British Isles - which is a geographical term for a group of islands lying off the north-west coast of mainland Europe. (Legally, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man are largely self governing, and are not part of the United Kingdom.) The Administrative Regions into which the UK and Ireland are divided have changed frequently in recent years. However, in line with normal genealogical practice, this Information Service is structured according to the counties as shown in these maps of England, Scotland and Wales , and of Ireland , i.e., as they were prior to the re-organisation that took place in 1974 (1975 for Scotland).
