Pacific-Asia Regions Some of the research sites included in this page offer information sources beyond the recognized definition of a 'Library' and a 'Archive'. We have tried to assign, but not limit, the term "Archive" to "Government" research sites containing interesting facts for the genealogist.
For the most part we have selected web sites where on-line research can be performed. News groups and Mailing Lists are not listed as primary sources although several may be found by following links from the suggested sites.
Libraries provide a huge depositary of invaluable information helpful to the thorough student in genealogy.
Geographically major emphasis has been placed on the sites representing the Pacific region.

Genealogy Unit Lesson
The purpose of this unit is designed to incorportate a host of innovative strataegies that are not often possible in a tradition leaning environment (i.e. creatiave writings in various forms, intergenerational learning, national and international collaborative research). This is an interdisciplinary unit incorporting skills and types of writing learned in Language Arts; Social Studies through the geography and history found in research of different countries and geographical regions; Reading; Computer Science; and the use of the Internet as a research source. Many of the goals of this unit are requirements of the 7th grade curriculum. Students will be conducting research and learning how to cite the information found on the Internet. Students will also be exposed to various forms of literature including essays, short stories, and possibly, a novel. Part of the writing for the unitl will include short biographies, a short autobiography, a brief history of the country of origin, a narrative, letters, and queries. Each student is given a packet about the unit which will contain copies of the forms to be used, the notebook requirements, and the project options. The packet contains the following:

Welcome
This site aims at helping standardizing genealogist practices so as to facilitate data exchange. It has been written by French speaking amateur genealogists. This English page explains this site objects and contents. For consulting other site pages, you can try using an automatic translator software, but at the risk of quickly becoming incomprehensible. Anyway, this can give you an idea Otherwise, feel free to write (in English) to Renaud Anzieu At first, we were a mail-list gathering about 200 experimented genealogists.
We are talking about topics aiming to provide good genealogy practice recommendations and advice. Each and every genealogist can participate and suggest topics and modifications.
Actually, they are mainly genealogists being motivated by such topics and whishing to share their knowledge. We do not dictate anything. We are independent from any genealogical organisation. Our good reputation is only based upon our information quality and exactness. Generally, we aim at two objects:

Getting Started
Maps are one of the many sources you may need to complete a family tree. In genealogical research, maps can provide clues to where our ancestors may have lived and where to look for written records about them. Beginners should master basic genealogical research techniques before starting to use topographic maps. Introductory books on genealogy suggest timesaving ways to plan, gather, organize, and record findings. To learn basic genealogical research techniques, it's best to start with the most concise, easy-to-read books, gazetteers, articles, pamphlets, and other sources that apply directly to the kind of research you plan to do. Books on the shelves of your local library may not include those that will best serve your purpose. However, many libraries and bookstores have the latest edition of Books in Print. Its subject guide gives the titles, authors, publishers, and prices of hundreds of books on genealogy. Many libraries also have directories that give the names and addresses of local, State, regional, and national associations of genealogists, historians, and ethnic groups.

Beginning Scandinavian Genealogy
William B. Fagerström
This is the handout from the lecture given at the 2002 Scandinavian Fest. 1. BEGINNINGS
Start
by documenting names, dates, and stories about family members. Let family know your interest and interview older family members. Church and civil records will always be there but personal memories and records will be lost with time unless documented.
Family Stories When conducting an oral interview: make interviewee comfortable, don't correct them, let them take conversation in a direction they want. If you touch on a sensitive issue, don't pry. Ask specific questions (where was born). Ask broad questions (what was it like going to school, to church). Avoid asking "tell me all you know about our family history" as this can be overwhelming and hard for them to know where to start. Remember tape recorders and VCRs may be threatening, particularly on a first interview. Limit interview to about 60 minutes. Document stories-who said what and when.
Important Records The family bible (may have notes about births, marriages and deaths), certificates of birth or baptism, marriage, and death certificates, naturalization papers, newspaper clippings, photo albums, movies, immigration, old letters from/to Scandinavian country, family tree, etc.

The massive, worldwide emigration to the United States has been a major feature of world history for more than five centuries and into the present day. Facts About American Immigration explores this extraordinary saga, focusing on who came to the U.S. and from where, their reasons for coming, the nature of their journey, and where they settled, starting with the earliest Americans, who crossed the Bering Land Bridge into Alaska between 12,000 and 15,000 B.C. The volume is a practical resource for historians and sociologists, as well as a boon to genealogical researchers. The work opens with an overview, including extensive statistical materials, to place the process of immigration in a wide historical context. This section also includes
  • A survey of the efforts to restrict immigration A portrait of the immigrant journey over the centuries A discussion of Native Americans and immigration A chronology of immigration
The main section of the book delves into immigration experiences, numbers, and motives, by region of emigration: Europe, Africa, Asia, the Americas, and Oceania. Each section begins with a brief introduction to the region, followed by a series of articles focusing on specific countries or groups of countries. Articles include tables and graphs that summarize and portray statistical information relating to immigration, as well as related Internet and print resources. Each regional section ends with tables and graphs summarizing the pattern of immigration from the region, plus general Internet and print resources.

Project Surnames: Cortright Courtright Cutright Kortright Kortryk Lowe Project Background: COURTRIGHT, CORTRIGHT,CUTRIGHT, KORTRYK and KORTRIGHT are among the spellings of the surname in historical recordsas well as LOW and LOWE. Family members have been at all levels of society from modestly successful farmers in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania to wealthy New York tycoons and a First Lady, Elizabeth Kortright, Mrs. James Monroe. We anticipate that DNA test results will supplement traditional family history research and relate to it to define various branches of the family or families, and to help individuals find where they fit in the family tree. Project Goals: The primary goal is to support and supplement the work of persons researching Courtright family relationships by using DNA measurement comparisons to help confirm paternal links and to define separate branchs of the family tree. While each project member has their own personal research goals, the general mission of the Courtright Surname DNA Project includes:
