28. Closed For Renovations...

http://www.geocities.com/moonlightkit13
Well... it's no lie that we haven't updated since December of 2002. Obviously, this place is sorely in need of an update. But, as we tend to do at least once a year, we've decided to close for renovations. The Ball will be better than ever once we reopen, and look for it to be hosted by a few new cats, as well! We should be open again in a couple of weeks, so come back soon!
Update - 25 Jul - The update is delayed. Zi's run into a major snag in the process, which is setting us back *weeks*. The new reopening date is mid- to late-August. No more delays, we promise.
Update - 12 Sep - Okay, we lied. More delays. I don't know when we'll be reopening, but let's get one thing straight: The more you people bitch to me about it, the less likely it is we'll be reopening at all. I'm tired of people selfishly demanding that I update, as you have no idea just what it is I'm going through. Since this renovation began, I've had to deal with theft, insults, unreasonable demands, and even THREATS to reopen, and I'm damn sick of it. That's just on the computer; I *do* have a life outside of this site, people, and in *that* I've had to deal with being thrown out of my house twice, getting accepted-then-denied to college, my dad dying, parasite infestations, moving out to my own house, and one hell of a messy breakup with my girlfriend. To tell the truth, this site is *not* number one on my priority list. IF we come back, we'll be better than ever. But learn patience. Until then, we've got a new e-mail address, listed below.

By Randall Whitlock
I generally make cowls in three pieces. The first is a circular shoulder cape cut wider than your shoulders, say 24 inches in diameter. A circular neck opening (just big enough to get your head through) is cut in the shoulder cape, tangent to the center.
The other two pieces are the sides of the hood. The basic shape is an irregular pentagon with an S-curved base. The length of the curved base equals half the circumference of the neck opening. Sew the two side pieces together along the top and back.
The straight remaining side is the face opening. Finish the face opening and the outer edge of the shoulder cape by forming rolled hems or by applying trim. The curved base of the hood is sewn to the neck opening so that the face opening of the hood is directed toward the shorter side (front) of the shoulder cape. The longer portion of the shoulder cape hangs down your back.
The side pieces can also be extended to form a liripipe, which is the long tail that hangs down the back in some 14th Century styles.

Tarot Cards
I am a woman of many projects. Can't help it. In 2000, I decided to make a tarot deck as birthday gifts for my friends. Well, ok, I'd wanted to do it for some time. When I was a child I tried to make a deck after reading a Princess of Flames, a fantasy novel by Ru Emerson. Two cards later, meticulously traced and colored with felt pen, I gave up. However, scanners and Photoshop make art possible for the drawing impaired. I've always loved symbolic imagery. Stories of transition, change. I'm particularly drawn to juxtaposition. People floating in clouds, a lake under a night sky reflecting a summer day. Ovid's Metamorphosis. That kind of thing. Anyway, click to see larger versions of the files and a brief explanation of my thought processes for each. And for more on my interest in legends and myths, check out the Morad Roel , a book a revised myths my friend Barbara (the page of pentacles) and I wrote in college. crystal carroll
