Wouldn't you love to abolish the IRS ...
Keep all the money in your paycheck ...
Pay taxes on what you spend, not what you earn ...
And eliminate all the fraud, hassle, and waste of our current system?
Then the FairTax is for you. In the face of the outlandish American tax burden, talk-radio firebrand Neal Boortz and Congressman John Linder are leading the charge to phase out our current, unfair system and enact the FairTax Plan, replacing the federal income tax and withholding system with a simple 23 percent retail sales tax on new goods and services. This dramatic revision of the current system, which would eliminate the reviled IRS, has already caught fire in the American heartland, with more than six hundred thousand taxpayers signing on in support of the plan. As Boortz and Linder reveal in this first book on the FairTax, this radical but eminently sensible plan would end the annual national nightmare of filing income tax returns, while at the same time enlarging the federal tax base by collecting sales tax from every retail consumer in the country. The FairTax, they argue, would transform the fearsome bureaucracy of the IRS into a more transparent, accountable, and equitable tax collection system. Among other benefits, it will:

Conservatism or political conservatism is any of several historically related political philosophies or political ideologies. There are also a number of Conservative political parties in various countries. All of these are primarily (though not necessarily exclusively) identified with the political right Among the significant usages of the term "conservatism" are: Classical conservatism or institutional conservatism - Opposition to rapid change in governmental and societal institutions. This kind of conservatism is anti- ideological insofar as it emphasizes means (slow change) over ends (any particular form of government). To the classical conservative, whether one arrives at a right- or left-leaning government is less important than whether change is effected through rule of law rather than through revolution and sudden innovation. Ideological conservatism or right conservatism - In contrast to the anti-ideological classical conservatism right conservatism is, as its name implies

Related topics: Other Related Legal Developments The Example of Senator McCain Political professionals generally agree that campaign finance reform, as a public policy question, never won or lost an election. A candidate hobbled by scandal may lose for that reason, but it is unlikely that absent those very personal, concrete circumstances, a position one way or the other on spending limits, or public financing, or "527" regulation, will account for much momentum or provide the margin of victory. Where, however, a candidate comes to embody notions of reform—the complex of attitudes that reform denotes—the political advantages are considerable, particularly for a conservative Republican who, in attracting favorable media attention, can hope to parlay it into Independent and Democratic support. Such may be the case with Senator McCain, as an interesting profile in The New Yorker , just published, would suggest. A Short History of the National Party
Origins:
Between the late 1800s and early 1900s various farm organisations across Australia began developing a common interest – to make politicians more aware of the needs and interests of their members. There was growing dissatisfaction that political parties of the day were ignoring the issues of concern to all but those living in metropolitan areas. Farm organisations began encouraging individual politicians from existing Parties to support specific endorsements that they had drawn up. In this way, the organisations could get a guarantee from a sympathetic politician that he or she would strive for better political representation of and interest in the issues that concerned farmers, particularly such things as marketing, land tax, tariffs and trade. These loose affiliations grew to the point where something more concrete was justified – direct political representation.

Fundraising off trolls, and protestors
by kos
Tue Sep 20th, 2005 at 01:37:16 PDT
During the heady days of the Dean campaign, Dean supporters would fundraise off Dean's fiercest critics. Attack Dean in the press or troll the site, and it meant dollars for the campaign. I'm surprised organizations haven't adopted the model. Until now. The Southeastern Pennsylvania Planned Parenthood is fundraising off the crazies who picket its office. Here's how it works: You decide on the amount you would like to pledge for each protester (minimum 10 cents). When protesters show up on our sidewalks, Planned Parenthood Southeastern Pennsylvania will count and record their number each day from October 1 through November 30, 2005. We will place a signoutside the health center that tracks pledges and makes protesters fully aware that their actions are benefiting PPSP. At the end of the two-month campaign, we will send you an update on protest activities and a pledge reminder. The idea is to de-incentivise obnoxious behavior. And the money raised is a nice bonus. More organizations should follow this model. (Via the Freakonomics blog . I've got that book sitting on my bedside, waiting to be read as soon as we finish writing our book.)

An Expanded View of Security
"Starve the beast," conservatives have been advising us for several decades. Ronald Reagan told us that the government is not the solution, that the government is the problem. Both Bushes have been following this philosophy - until 9/11. Then, George W. Bush decided that the "beast" is needed primarily for maintaining security; he boosted the military and "starved" everything else. Katrina crashed into New Orleans and demonstrated that the old view of security is wrong. Many of the "starved" sectors are needed to keep our people - all the people - secure. History of the Liberal-Conservative Party of Canada Canada. While the author of the text might be overstating the tendency of the Conservative party to sponsor “socialistic” policies, the text was probably first written during the Great Depression at the time of the interventionist Bennett New Deal there is no doubt that, from time to time, the party has found its inspiration on the left of the political spectrum and has championed some progressive measures. To some extent, this is why the Conservative party of Canada used the name of “Progressive-Conservative Party” from 1942 to 2004; in the same vein, there has been a continuous string of “red-tories” in the Conservative party of the XXth century. Such “left” tendencies have vanished altogether since the merger of the Conservative party with the Canadian Alliance in 2004. The party is now squarely one on the right of the political spectrum, and one that is increasingly more ideological in orientation.] [The Liberal-Conservative Party] is the official name of what is commonly known in Canada as the Conservative party. The name had its origin in the fact that in 1854 John A. Macdonald, the founder of the party, succeeded in uniting the moderate or Baldwin Liberals of Upper Canada with the High Tories and moderate Conservatives of Upper Canada and the English-speaking Conservatives and French-Canadian
