    Libraries
The departmental Library , which contains books and journals covering the whole field of computation including numerical analysis, is located on level 2 of the Wolfson Building , with an adjoining reading room. It regularly receives reports from other computing science departments, numerical analysis groups and research institutes working in computational fluid dynamics - both in this country and abroad. Further books and journals on various branches of mathematics can be found in the Whitehead Library in the nearby Mathematical Institute A much larger collection of books, including all scientific books published in the United Kingdom and many of those published abroad, is held in the Radcliffe Science Library (on the corner of Parks Road and South Parks Road, within easy walking distance), which forms part of the Bodleian Library. The above are all intended as research libraries; undergraduates would normally use college library facilities. Please contact the Departmental Librarian for further information about the library facilities.

Join the team of professionals who provide information services to one of the most dynamic science and engineering communities in the world. This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and innovative librarian to plan, provide, and promote information services in the area of computer science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The Engineering and Science Libraries consist of two divisional libraries - Science, and Barker Engineering, and two branch libraries (Aeronautics and Astronautics, and Lindgren). These libraries serve the School of Engineering, the School of Science, as well as related centers, institutes, and laboratories, in addition to a growing number of interdisciplinary programs in other schools and departments. With collections of over 800,000 volumes and a staff of 31, the Engineering and Science Libraries offer a full range of services to support the information needs of the MIT community. The Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) Department at MIT is an internationally distinguished center for research and teaching and is the largest academic unit at MIT. The Department traditionally attracts more than 25% of all undergraduate and graduate students to its top-ranked programs. Located in the new Frank Gehry-designed Ray and Maria Stata Center, the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL) and the Laboratory for Information Decision Systems (LIDS) are multidisciplinary research centers in which more than 100 faculty and primary investigators conduct research. CSAIL is also home to the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).

Dynamic linking means that the data in a library is not copied into a new executable or library at compile time, but remains in a separate file on disk. Only a minimal amount of work is done at compile time by the linker it only records what libraries the executable needs and the index names or numbers. The majority of the work of linking is done at the time the application is loaded ( loadtime ) or during the execution of the process ( runtime ). The necessary linking code, called a
