about courses people CoE ... activities Welcome to the Department of Computer Science at Rhodes University. Information and Communication Technology is consistently changing our society by changing the way our economy, education system, social and cultural interaction work. This is particularly relevant to the kinds of activities graduates encounter in their day-to-day personal and professional lives. As technology progresses, it will become increasingly important to have a knowledge and an understanding of the nature of technologies, and how they are changing. Anticipating these changes will enhance the choices you make in your personal and working life. Naturally, the more knowledge you have, the more you will be able to exploit the power of Information and Communication Technology. The attention of prospective students is particularly drawn to the new BSc(Software Development) degree. This unique degree is a four-year, professional qualification, which prepares people for careers as software engineers.

HAP: Haplotype Resolution using Imperfect Phylogeny: The online HAP program is used to separate sequences of genetic data into haplotypes, which are used in research on the genetic components of complex diseases. Protein Interaction Networks and Transcriptional Regulation: This research focuses on the interactions between genes and proteins that regulate the transcription of genes and the responses of cells to external signals. Dissection of regulatory networks that control gene transcription is one of the greates challenges of functional genomics.

The Leeds Logic Group
The group is one of the largest and most active in Europe, with an international reputation for research in several of the main areas of mathematical logic - computability theory, model theory, set theory and foundations, proof theory, and in applications to algebra, analysis and theoretical computer science. The group has been very successful in obtaining EPSRC and EU support for Research Students and Post-Doctoral Fellows, and has been the focus of extensive international collaboration via various research projects and networks in proof theory, computability theory and model theory. Our past postgraduates and researchers have been very successful in moving to research or teaching positions in Mathematics and Computer Science departments around the world. Further details of individual staff's research interests can be found on their homepages, accessed via the links on the left. Applications to visit or to pursue research within the Leeds Logic Group are always welcome. Please contact Prof. John Truss, who is always willing to give helpful advice, for more information:
