I think anthropology and history have a lot to say about story. More broadly, the social sciences. I have a sense of 'story' as coda for our evolutionary survival. I'm not convinced we're all that complicated, evolutionarily speaking. We screw, we block other mates from screwing, we secure resources, killing each other is a useful tool to that end, we manipulate each other, etc. blah blah blah. Many of our actions are determined by our environment. Part of the problem of 'story' may be that we think rather too much of ourselves. We don't sufficiently embrace "our inner cockroach," our triviality. Of course, the other problem is we're so elaborate. The driving processes may all be very simple, but they're elaborated into minutiae of detail that we have to deal with. It's mitigating all this detail that's hard.

Welcome to my little corner of the web. My name is Michele Parry and I have great fun creating images with various programs.
When I first started working with computers I discovered a program called Terragen, created by Matt Fairclough, which opened my eyes to the world of graphics and 3D art. This is an outstanding program for producing very realistic landscapes and is fantastic so don't forget to get yourself a copy. A selection of work using this program can be seen in the Terragen gallery.
My passion soon grew to include Bryce . I liked what could be accomplished with this program and soon became addicted. Poser was the natural progression from there and I love to use this program as a starting place for my images. I love to use Bryce and Poser together as you will see when you browse the Bryce gallery.
All the images here are 1024 x 768 and make great wallpaper (even if I do say so myself) and are free to download for personal use, just click on the image for a full sized version and right click to save as. If you do, however, wish to use any of the images for commercial purposes, please contact me for permission. I rarely say no but I do like to be asked.
Please feel free to E-Mail me here with any requests or comments, or by filling in the form on the E-Mail page. I hope you enjoy my site and thanks for visiting.

The film The Phantom Menace was widely noted for its heavy use of computer graphics. More affordable computers and software provide several advantages for thrifty artists. Compared to the price of oils, an easel and canvases, a PC and the occasional trip to the copy shop can be an attractive alternative. There are two main paradigms in computer generated imagery. The simplest is 2D computer graphics which reflect how you might draw using a pencil and a piece of paper. In this case, however, the image is on the computer screen and the instrument you draw with might be a tablet stylus or a mouse. What is generated on your screen will appear to be drawn with a pencil, pen or paintbrush. The second kind is 3D computer graphics , where the screen becomes a window into a virtual environment, where you arrange objects to be "photographed" by the computer. Of course the image generated is 2D, so you can always take it into your paint program for additions, in the same way Weekly World Inquirer Magazine inserted the space aliens in the coffee bar. Typically, 2D computer graphics use

Now that you've got the scanner and all that great software, you can play with photos to your heart's content. Here's how to use laser-printer output as the basis for a silk screen. To Use a Black-and-White Image Steps: Choose a photograph. Scan it into the computer in gray-scale mode at 300 dpi. Manipulate and adjust it as desired, using Adobe Photoshop. (If you're using another graphics program, you'll need to translate these instructions.) Change your mode from gray-scale to bitmap. A pop-up menu will appear. Click on "diffusion dither" and drop the resolution to 100 dpi. Print one copy on bond paper or two copies on transparency film. (On transparency film, the toner is not dense enough for a single copy to work. You have to double up - line up the images exactly, and tape the edges with clear tape.) To Use a Color Image Steps: Choose a photograph.

tips from eHow users: Ink jet transparencies You don't need to have a laser jet printer to get good transparency printouts. You can get great quality transparency prints using transparencies made specially for ink jet printers. Just set your preferences to 'transparency' before you print. You'll get printouts that are dark enough to transfer your image to screen using only one sheet. I use a canon i850, which is actually a bubble jet printer, and I still get great printouts on these transparencies. Ink jet printers can achieve near image setter quality because heat isn't used to set the ink the way laser jets do. You can find them at most screen supply shops online. Some places refer to them as ink jet films.

A 3D computer-generated helicopter. 3D computer graphics are works of graphic art that were created with the aid of digital computers and specialized 3D software . In general, the term may also refer to the process of creating such graphics, or the field of study of 3D computer graphic techniques and its related technology. 3D computer graphics are distinct from 2D computer graphics in that a three-dimensional virtual representation of objects is stored in the computer for the purposes of performing calculations and rendering images. In general, the art of 3D graphics is akin to sculpting or photography, while the art of 2D graphics is analogous to painting. In computer graphics software, this distinction is occasionally blurred; some 2D applications use 3D techniques to achieve certain effects such as lighting, while some primarily 3D applications make use of 2D visual techniques.

A paintbrush makes no commentary about the quality of the work, but in the hands of a master can demonstrate the subtlest shadings and evoke the strongest emotions. The computer is a tool, and a liberating one; your standard paintbrush also doesn't have an Undo feature.

Computer-generated Art
I have been interested in computer-generated art of various kinds since I started programming the early 1980s. At the time I was a music student at CalArts, so it is understandable that a lot of my programs would have an artistic bent. Image Synthesis Since the mid-80s I've been writing software that generates images using mathematical expressions. This technique can be used to create some extremely interesting and beautiful special effects such as Fractal Zooms, animated clouds and many others. These days this is a very common technique (called 'procedural textures') used to generate image detail in computer graphics. Here are two of these programs. Pixel Magic is an art program for the mathematically literate. It creates images by computing the results of mathematical expressions (thus the name) which you supply. Photoshop Expression is a Photoshop Filter that performs the same functions. And here are some graphics demos I did a few years ago. Needlepoint During the spring of 1997, as a result of my research into textiles, I got interested in computer-aided cross-stitching or needlepoint. I wrote a program to generate needlepoint patterns from PICT files, and began a working on a colorful spiral pattern derived from a computer-generated image, which was made using my
