Computer Generated Art 1984 - present This page represents the relatively limited amount of computer-generated artwork I have done on my own. (I've done plenty of computer work, but usually there has been a client or project involved - you can see that work in the Installation section.) In the early days access to the good stuff (hardware and software) was quite restricted. Looking over these images now, I realize they are more a collection of science experiments than fine art. The first three images were shot off the monitor at the Fantastic Animation Machine in New York in 1984. Exhibit one is my very first 3D digitized head - all editing of the polygonal mesh was done by tweaking arrays of numbers without any recognizable user interface. Exhibit two was a fake 3D environment using 2D paint strokes and Exhibit three was a jungle I created with Eric Hoffert. All colors were done by number - notice my fascination with Red, Green and Blue, literally. The next three images created in 1991 are actually stereoscopic environments. At SIGGRAPH '03 Brent Cavanaugh and several students from Bowling Green State University used the FLAAR equipment provided by BetterLight to produce some unusual images. The orange olive oil bottle had spices inside. It was illuminated from the sides and back, resulting in the unusual flare. We are currently trying to find the rollout of the red cabbage among over 111 GB of images in the FLAAR archive.
