It used to be a language only known by computer enthusiasts, however now with the Internet becoming more and more popular, computer acronyms have become part of the vernacular. Computer Acronyms are like a foreign language to many people. However, since they are used throughout the computer and electronic industry for describing various functions, processes, and components, they are important to learn. What was once a language only known by computer scientists is now commonly used in the popular culture. Computer acronyms have become part of the vernacular. Do you really understand what computer acronyms mean? Please study the following list of computer terms with explanations. If you can't find the acronym or abbreviation you are looking for,

Glossary of Communications, Computer, Data, and Information Security Terms
(maintained by Rob Slade
This is version 0.11, completed June 13, 2005 This glossary, in hypertext format, is maintained at Victoria TelecommunityNet and Northern Illinois University , one of which sites you are undoubtedly viewing. Announcements in regard to the glossary are made through the secgloss mailing list through eGroups/Yahoo Groups. You can subscribe by email. For more information you can view the Website This document is very much "in process." It is in very rough form, and not all the links will even work at this time. Please report any errors, or terms you think should be added, to Rob Slade The initial version of the glossary was heavily weighted towards older terms, and the US government and military standards. This edition has added newer terms, particularly those related to computer viruses, malware, and more recent technologies such as wireless networking. This glossary concentrates on usage of terms. Capitalization and spelling generally follows the most common usage, except where such usage can be shown to be based on a specific error. Acronyms and phrases have the definition placed with the most commonly used form: for example, in most cases the phrase "denial of service" is used unless it has been previously defined in an article as the acronym "DoS," whereas the acronym "DDoS" is almost universally used in preference to the phrase "distributed denial of service." In all cases an attempt has been made to have a link from the lesser used form to the definition: if you find a "missing link" please let me know.
