CPSA IS THE ONLY ARTISTS' ORGANIZATION THAT HAS PARTICIPATED

For research beginnings, CPSA thanks the following: National Center for Preservation Technology and Training and the Samuel H. Save a personal copy of this article and quickly find it again with Furl.net. It's free! Save it. In the hierarchy of art, oils have reigned supreme for centuries. Not until recently have colored pencils earned a place all their own When people think of two-dimensional art, they usually think of work done in oil, watercolor, pastel or charcoal. But colored pencils? Isn't that reserved for kids? Actually, no. An impressive number of professional artists are using nothing other than colored pencils to achieve stunning works of art. Whether still lifes or landscapes, the human figure or abstraction, the versatility of the medium has attracted some of today's most skilled draftsmen. And yet colored pencils have suffered somewhat of a stigmaperhaps due to our childhood memoriesand not until recently has this complex and labor-intensive medium been given the respect it deserves.

I had recently had scanned a picture colored with Prismacolor pencils. In the end, while most of the colors appear nice, it still looked washed out. Can anyone give me tips on how to make colored pencil piccy scans look more richer because I'm planning to do more color pencil piccies.

So, what do you need to get started with colored pencil art? Student grade colored pencils (such as Crayola, Rose Art, Prang, etc) are very different

FARP : Getting started with colored pencil.
By Tiffanie L. Gray ( TiffanieG@highstream.net ), Lothlorien Gallery 79, Zone Gallery 39. This tutorial is written for the beginning to intermediate colored pencil artist, but not the beginning artist. I won't cover color, composition and drawing techniques, except how they relate to colored pencil. So, if you are just starting drawing, read one of the Drawing Tutorials first. (Although if someone begged my prettily enough I might be persuaded to do an article on portraits *grin*) Oh! How do you answer if someone tells you that colored pencil isn't lightfast? Tell them it's just as lightfast as watercolor and pastel. Sure, there are some colors that are fugitive (ie will fade in direct sunlight), but they have no more fugitive colors than pastels and watercolors. Conte Crayons are a type of colored pencil and they have been around for centuries. Proper care of your artwork will guarantee that it will be around for a long time. "I want to add some color to my pen and ink/graphite work...what can I do?" Well, there is always the marker/watercolor/acrylic option, or, much simpler and cheaper...colored pencil! And that will open up whole new avenues of creativity, because if you can use graphite, pen, marker, etc....then you can learn to use colored pencil.

39. Sanford & A Lifetime Of Color: Featured Artist: Debbie Gimbel
Technique The Magic colored pencil—How to use Prismacolor art pencils with rubber stamps. What is a stamper? What separates a STAMPER from a stamper?
http://www.sanford-artedventures.com/create/artist/gimbel_mp.html
Debbie Gimbel lives in Orlando, Florida. Before her kids came along, she designed computer systems, and then stayed home to raise her children. She is the mom of two rather nice teen-age daughters and married to a really wonderful man who doesn't think his wife is crazy because she likes "to color" just like kids do! She is a friend to many wildly funny and enthusiastic stampers who make her want to come up with lots of unique ways to use their stamps. She teaches all sorts of rubber stamping classes at Impressions from the Heart in Orlando and Romances in Leesburg. Contact Debbie at debgim@aol.com Debbie says:
I have been in love with color forever. I have been creating things for a very long time, as well. But I did not take up the art of rubber-stamping (I was a dabbler) until a year and a half ago. Our oldest daughter was going off to University, so to help I took a part time job at a stamp store. I decided to delve into rubber-stamping. Having decided upon the blending engine, I then needed a vehicle to manipulate it and found stumps to be the ideal solution. The results have been pure magic: no ink or paper damage, supremely controllable color, easy, pretty, and I have a portfolio of comments from very happy stampers.
What is a stamper?
