Work and study abroad
Imperial College is a truly international place to study but your international experience need not stop here. The College offers various opportunities for students to study and to gain industrial experience abroad as part of a degree programme. These include Year in Europe, Year Abroad and Year in Industry courses, as well as numerous shorter exchange programmes. Imperial College is a member of several international networks, including IDEA League, UNITECH and CLUSTER, and these offer particular advantages for Imperial students wishing to spend some study time in Europe. Participation in these European partnerships means that Imperial is ideally placed to take due account of the developments in higher education that are being introduced as a result of the pan-European Bologna project.

Chemical Engineering with a Year Abroad
Hannah is in her final year and will graduate in 2005. "I wanted to improve my language skills and I knew that the best way to do this was to immerse myself totally in the foreign country. Employers like people who speak other languages and it demonstrates your thirst for a challenge and ability to adapt. I chose Spain because I studied Spanish at AS level and really love the language. I was also hoping for some better weather than we get in London! I knew that the university I would be going to was close to the Pyrenees and I would be able to go skiing at the weekends.

http://web.centre.edu/studyabroad/
Become a Citizen of the World The world is getting smaller. How much of it would you like to see? International study is a way of life at Centre. About 75% of all Centre graduates now study abroad, putting Centre in the top 10 of the 3,500 colleges and universities in the country. What makes Centre's programs different from those at other colleges and universities is that a Centre faculty member with significant knowledge of that region of the world lives at the site, teaching and coordinating special trips and other activities. Centre operates residential sites for its own students in England (London), France (in Strasbourg, across the Rhine River from Germany), and Latin America (in Merida, Mexico). We also have exchange programs with schools in Japan and Northern Ireland. Some Centre students study at the University of Reading (near London) each year, as well. More than 100 Centre students each year spend a term or more at one of these sites. The costs for these programs are essentially the same as studying in Danville. (Students do pay their own airfare.) In addition, many Centre professors offer shorter, more focused trips during the short

International Study Abroad and Exchange Program Either we're getting more and more global or the world is shrinking. No matter where you choose to go to college, everybody's talking about study abroad. Well, Down South, we speak that language too fluently. The International Study Abroad and Exchange Program of Wesleyan College provides outstanding academic opportunities. These programs extend the boundaries of our campus, widen our educational horizon, and encourage personal and academic growth through semester, summer, or year-long studies in a variety of countries. Personal Experiences "Do it!!! Travel Abroad! I lived in Italy this summer for two and a half months, traveled, sculpted and studied art and the Italian language. This experience caused me to reflect on who I am, who I can be, and the memories keep my spirit soaring. The independence allowed me to find my own path and to deal with situations as they arose. Everything about my summer in Italy was a learning experience, not just during classes, but just by walking down the street, ordering food...immersing myself in the culture." -Lauren-Summers Hodgens "Even though I went to South Korea at a time when political turmoil was at its worst, it was definitely worth it! Being in Korea has given me so much exposure and a new outlook on life. It has also opened doors and given me options I would never have considered before. The people there are so incredibly amazing that I am considering going back again. I am indeed most grateful for this indescribable experience."

International Study Opportunities
Give your education a global dimension through Alverno's study abroad programs. Alverno offers both longer term and shorter term international study opportunities. Scholarships through the Travelship Program help defray the cost of international study or of attending conferences related to your major. Alverno has negotiated formal student exchange agreements with six foreign universities. These exchange programs let you spend a semester or a year studying abroad at one of our partner universities. Student exchange is an attractive option for a number of reasons:
  • Since students retain their continuous enrollment at Alverno, their financial aid formulas and packages remain undisturbed
These arrangements eliminate the need for the international transfer of funds
Since Alverno knows these partner institutions well, Alverno can provide better advising in terms of credit transfer, application of foreign credits to Alverno degree requirements, etc.
