Grant Seeking Guide Introduction How We Can Help How To Proceed Introduction Three different categories of grant seeking exist at Westmont. One category encompasses those grants that are actively pursued by the Office of Campus Advancement (OCA), a second category includes those grants that are sought through a joint effort between OCA and one or more academic departments, and a third category includes grants sought by individual faculty members or by a specific academic department. Each of the above-mentioned grant seeking categories, OCA Grant Seeking, Shared Grant Seeking, and Faculty and Departmental Grant Seeking, is important to the mission of the college. The manner in which grants are sought and the person(s) to whom the grant-seeking task is given distinguishes one type of grant seeking from another. The three different areas of grant seeking and the types of grants that are pursued in each area are outlined in the Institutional Priorities Chart . The following is an attempt to clarify the unique grant seeking approaches required in each category. OCA Grant Seeking Westmont's Office of College Advancement exists to give oversight and coordination to the college's fund raising efforts. OCA's fund raising activities are focused on garnering financial resources to support the college's annual and long-term funding priorities. Within OCA, Westmont's Office of Foundation and Corporate Relations (OFCR) is charged with coordinating all campus fund raising efforts with foundations and corporations. The primary responsibility of the OFCR however, is to identify, cultivate and solicit foundations and corporations for what have been defined by the President, in collaboration with the trustees of the college, as the funding priorities for that fiscal year. (I have arranged them in alphabetical order, and left off three that only allow requests in the Health programmatic area). These foundations donated over 3 BILLION DOLLARS last year to non-profit organizations. There is a lot of money out there for you to use to help improve your schools and help your children. Bank of America Foundation places special emphasis on providing educational opportunities for young children so they will be ready to learn and achieve when they begin school. However, they do not consider funding requests from K-12 schools, so you will have to partner with a non-profit organization in order to receive funds. Remember that the Bank is now all over the country, so send a grant letter to the Manager of your local BofA branch. You may submit proposals at any time. Ford Foundation seeks to enhance educational opportunity, especially for low-income and chronically disadvantaged groups. Establishing A Scholarship Grants-in-Aid, Merit Scholarships and Awards at BCC T he Broome Community College Foundation proudly offers grants-in-aid to supplement federal and state aid, merit scholarships, and awards to Broome Community College students. Currently because of the generosity of many donors, including community people, businesses, organizations, foundations, faculty, staff and alumni over $400,000 is made available each year to aid and recognize BCC students through the Foundation's grant and scholarship program. Scholarships and Financial Aid A merit scholarship not only assures a student of public recognition for being outstanding, but also is tremendously helpful in assisting a student to cover costs that non-competitive awards (such as New York State Tuition Assistance or Federal Pell Grants) do not cover. These awards are also valuable because they may reduce the student's reliance on loans. APPLICATION: Students needing financial assistance to continue their education at BCC and all students considered for scholarships with a need component are required to fill out and submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). This form is processed by an agency associated with the U.S. Department of Education, and eligibility information is then sent to BCC's Office of Financial Aid (OFA). With this information the OFA can prepare a financial aid package for the coming year, taking into account the student's cost of attending as well as his/her expected family contribution. Most grants-in-aid (that is, need-based grants) over and above TAP and Pell are awarded to eligible students based on the award criteria in March and April. These funds help fill the gap of unmet need, and are depleted rapidly once selection begins. Students are encouraged to apply for aid early.

The complex will house a 550-seat theater with full fly loft and orchestra pit, a 400-seat recital hall, and a black box theater seating 150.
