1. If x + 6 = 9, then 3x + 1 = ? Answer choices: (A) 3 (B) 9 (C) 10 (D) 34 (E) 46
But that is not the question. You must go on to the second part of the question (3x + 1 = ?) Always be careful on two-part questions. Substitute 3 for the x in the 2nd equation. 3x + 1 = ?. Therefore,
Choice C is the correct answer.
III. 1
x + 1 The easiest way to solve this problem is to work from the answers, eliminating the wrong answers. Substitute a simple number you can work with quickly. Again, this does what the questions asks. We can see that x decreases when x is decreased. 3. Barney can mow the lawn in 5 hours, and Fred can mow the lawn in 4 hours. How long will it take them to mow the lawn together? Find a common denominator: 4/20 + 5/20 = 1/x 9/20 = 1/x x = 2 2/9 that Barney is a little slower than Fred because it takes him 5 hours by himself. Logic tells us that together, it would take them a little more than 2 hours.

College Entrance Exams Most colleges require students to submit the results of some form of entrance examination. There are two major tests that colleges use, the SAT, administered by The College Board, and the ACT. The SAT is the most widely known exam but in some areas of the United States, the ACT is more frequently the exam of choice. Most colleges accept either test from students. As in other parts of your college planning process, it is always best to review the information from each college to determine their preference. The PSAT/NMSQT The PSAT/NMSQT is the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, a test co-sponsored by The College Board and the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. It is a practice test taken in preparation for the SAT. It measures critical reading skills, math problem-solving skills, and writing skills. The PSAT includes questions that are similar to those you will find on the SAT. While the SAT does have a writing sample or essay, there will not be an essay on the PSAT and, since juniors will not have finished third year college preparatory math coursework, there will be no third year college preparatory math questions.

Applying to College
Applying to College
Applying to college is a process that can begin as early as your 8th grade year in school. All students should do their best to maintain the highest grades possible. This will put students in a better position to be placed on a college track curriculum in high school. In high school students should maintain a high GPA, take challenging college-prep courses, become involved in extracurricular activities, and take the necessary college admissions exams. Students can begin applying to their top college choices as early as the junior year in high school.
College Entrance Exams When assessing a student's application, admissions officers at most universities use an individual review process where applicants are evaluated on the basis of SAT or American College Testing Program (ACT) scores, class rank, grade point average (GPA), and students' achievements and accomplishments in and out of school. Admission officers from some universities also consider other factors, such as a student's socioeconomic level, the geographic location of the high school (rural, inner-city, suburban), and whether the applicant is a first generation college student. In addition, applicants whose parents are alumni or who have letters written on their behalf by persons respected by college admissions officers is helpful.

College Entrance Exams Do I really have to take a test to get into college? The answer is, in most cases, yes! You can get ready by taking the PSAT/NMSQT in 10th and 11th grade. The test will provide you with an indication of how you will do on the Sat and possibly qualify you for a national college scholarship. Toward the end of your junior year and in senior year the SAT I and/or ACT should be taken. The best time to take the SAT II (subject tests), if required, is as soon as you have completed the course. Tip: Do the Extra Work Educational consultants feel that going the extra mile pays off. Take extra classes, avoid popular universities where admissions are too competitive, do some volunteer work. Find scholarships and loans that will help you pay for college. These will all boost your chances of getting in to college.
Tip: Why Climate is Important in A College Choice While it would be ideal to just look at the academics of a college in choosing, remember that the climate and environment can have a big impact on your emotions, and hence, academic outlook. It can be hard to move from a warm climate to a cold one or vice versa. Tip: Finding the Right School Confused about which college or university to attend? Remember you are purchasing an education...research and shop around before making your decision. Also find out what scholarships or financial aid the schools will offer you. Be sure this is the right school for you.

College Entrance Exams The two standardized college entrance exams used most in the United States are the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) and the American College Test (ACT). These tests, both of which are intended to predict future academic achievement, differ somewhat in design. The SAT attempts to measure verbal and mathematical skills, whereas the ACT is broader, examining an array of academic topics in addition to math and language. Scores from CEEs are an important part of a student's application to college, particularly for highly selective schools.

College Entrance Exams Can Confuse Students
By Evelyn Canales
In the United States, College entrance exams are required by many colleges in order for a person to enter their institute. Some of the entrance exams that are required are the SAT, the ACT, and the TOEFL.
The exams test English and some test math and other subjects. Any person planning on taking any of these exams must know the area of studies each exam is going to test in order for them to prepare because each exam is different. For example there is the SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test), which has two kinds; there is the SAT I and there is the SAT II. The SAT I is required by most colleges. It tests the persons knowledge in English, algebra, and geometry.
The ACT (American College Testing) is another exam, which is somewhat different from the SAT I. The ACT subjects include English, math, and science.
Another exam is the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language); nonnative English-speaking persons can take this exam. The TOEFL tests the person's ability in the English language only.
The SAT II is different subject exams - mathematics, English, science, foreign languages, and history. This means that you can take an exam in subjects like chemistry, biology, and others. Some colleges require the applicants to take the SAT II in certain subjects.

College entrance examinations are not intended to assess students' achievement of the high school curriculum. However, as one important predictor of how well students will do in college, these exams provide a source of information about Blue Valley's success in preparing its students for college. Research generally shows that the greater the number of students taking a college entrance exam, the lower the average score. Since Blue Valley has high percentages of its students taking these exams, comparisons to state and national data must be made cautiously. Blue Valley ACT scores/SAT scores College entrance examinations are designed to predict how well students will do in their college studies. In that sense they can also be used as one measure of how well a high school is serving a portion of its student populationthose planning to attend college. Using these scores to compare schools or districts is unfair because they do not include all students. Their greatest use is for an individual building or district which compares the scores over time. The most current Blue Valley ACT/SAT results are presented below.
