http://www.coach.ca/e/tips/hockey/hockey9_attitudes.htm
Hockey Tips Teach Attitudes First, Skills Second What is the First Commandment of Coaching? If you said winning, better read on. Fair Play is the First Commandment, and is based on this Golden Rule: treat others as you would like to be treated yourself. You and the parents of your players are responsible for instilling this Fair Play attitude. Everyone must show respect for rules, referees, teammates and opposing players and coaches. You can start by setting a good example. Don't argue with referees or opposing players and coaches, and teach your players to never check or hit in a manner that might cause injury to an opponent. There's nothing wrong with winning, but overemphasizing it can lead to decreased enjoyment and restricted participation for players, and result in undesirable behaviour and high anxiety levels. Never ridicule or condemn your players for making mistakes or losing games, and don't overplay your talented players. All players have a right to fair ice time. Always consider the welfare of your players first, by making certain they are participating in a safe environment. Ensure that facilities, equipment and practices are safe and appropriate to the age and ability level of your players. Downplay toughness and intimidation, and stress that players should never hit an opponent from behind.

Soccer Speed Training Methods at Sport Specific.com My Coaching Philosophy
By Tony DiCicco The objective in any team sport is to transform the group from a mere collection of talented individuals into a highly cohesive unit so that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.
-Colleen Hacker

Even before stepping onto the field for tryouts or the first day of the season, you should know, as a coach, how you are going to approach the game. Think of it as a game plan on a larger scale, a blueprint for the kind of coach you want to be. Over the years I've been asked many times what my coaching philosophy is, so I've tried to sum it up here as succinctly as possible, breaking it into ten rather simple principles. Taken together these principles show how I approach teaching and coaching.
1. Know Your Limitations and Use Them as Strengths

Whatever you do, do it to the best of your best ability. This sounds obvious and maybe even a little simplistic, but its very important corollary is that you must understand what your best abilities are and then work with them. In other words, in order to perform at the highest level, you have to know your limitations and at the same time use your strengths. Being aware of your limitations allows you to enhance your performance by surrounding yourself with the best people, which is what I've always done. Frankly, I've seen a lot of people do the opposite. People who are afraid their abilities will be undermined are threatened by the talents of others. And I have to admit that at times, I've felt that way too. It can be pretty scary to be surrounded by people more talented in some areas than you are, but in the end I've always tried to appreciate my own abilities and those of my coaching colleagues to allow us to do what was best for the team to help us win.

Our coaching Guru, the wisest coach in the world, gives three fun drills for coaches. These are difficult to explain without good diagrams but let me have a go. These are not new drills but you know, I am sure, that there are certain training techniques that remain with you because they work - these three work well for me. Each asterisk is a cone. Drill 1: * 6 metres * 6 metres * 6 metres * 6 metres * 6 metres * a gap between lines of cones of about 20 metres
What does this drill teach? 2. The narrower you corridor the straighter the backs must run- it teaches players to run straight. 3. Quick passing- the ball must reach the end of the line by the time the ball reaches the last player in the line; so, passing technique.

Seven Ideas That Will Make Your Basketball Season More Successful
By Sidney Goldstein No wonder many coaches are overwhelmed each season: besides being a basketball expert, you need to be an expert teacher, organizer, floor general, child psychologist, and more. You probably have another job that keeps you busy. Here are several ideas that may make your life easier and your season more successful. 1. Don't let them do it!
That's right, make sure your players do things right in practice. Don't let players shoot from half court, shoot with faulty technique, dribble with their heads down, palm the ball while dribbling, and so on. If players can't do things correctly, don't let them do them at all. Ban shooting from more than three feet or dribbling, if you think its necessary. Remember: if your players practice improperly, then they become experts on doing things wrong (we call these bad habits). 2. Don't try to do it all!

Everybody Plays

NFL Flag games were designed specifically to make it easier for every player to have a role in a team's success. While size and skill certainly will come into play when the action starts, your coaching should emphasize the "working together" aspect of the games.
Tackle Tackling Early
Don't let your practices dissolve into a giant pile of rambunctious kids. For both their safety and your sanity, make sure to discourage any tackling or roughness early on. Remind them that they won't help their team in a game by tackling or being rough.
Sportsmanship Rules!
Help your players be good sports. After a game, shake hands with or do a cheer for the other team. Applaud good play by both sides. Treat officials with respect. While imitating you, your team won't even know it's being taught a good lesson.
Let Them Play Football!
The temptation to be another Don Shula or Bill Walsh will have to wait. This is NFL Flag. While teaching football skills and strategies is important, keep your lessons as simple as possible. As your team grasps the basics, move on to more advanced ideas. Overloading young players with too much information too early can cause them only confusion...and you headaches.

The Parent Coach: Coaching Tips For Parents Of Children With LD And ADHD
by Dr. Steven Richfield
A parent writes: "Both our son and daughter struggle with learning disabilities and Attention Deficit Disorder. As they struggle so do my husband and I. Communication breaks down into arguments, problems arise in school and among peers, and we are often unsure of how to handle their emotional ups and downs. Any suggestions?"
Children with LD and ADHD present unique challenges and rewards to parents. The vulnerability of a fragile ego, the unthinking behaviors rooted in impulsivity, or the steep decline of emotional meltdowns, can render even the most patient parent looking for tools and techniques to manage their child's unpredictable behaviors.
These scenarios fall under the heading of what I have come to call the "Now, what do I do?" syndrome. It is a question echoing through the minds of all parents at one time or another. As a child psychologist who trains parents who regularly witness these scenarios, I help empower parents with tools and tips to manage the emotional and social currents of ADHD and LD children. Here are some to consider:
