ACE READING CLUB INTRODUCTION
The City of Greenbelt is sponsoring a FREE reading incentive program that you can utilize in your classrooms this school year. The ACE Reading Club is a community-based youth reading program established with the purpose to excite children about the activity of reading thereby helping children to improve their reading abilities and increase self-confidence. The Club is voluntary and open to all children in grades K thru 12 who attend school or live in Greenbelt.
ACTIVITIES Calendar
Monthly calendar of reading-related activities emailed to school principals, teachers, parents, and students. Students are encouraged to complete and send to the ACE Reading Club as many activities as interests them. Activities are then posted on-line, printed in the ACE Reading Club newsletter, or considered for a special television program (see below). Club Meetings
Club meetings are held once per quarter per school. Club meetings include reading-related projects, games, and activities including the Inter-school pen-pal program, and the International Reading Exchange Program (see below). Club meetings are one hour in length and take place in the school after school hours. At least one teacher or volunteer from each school is encouraged to assist with the meetings. Meetings are limited to thirty students. Students must sign up for the meeting by emailing the ACE Reading Club at least one week in advance.

Purpose
The Pre-Optometry Club of University of Michigan is an organization which serves the needs of students interested in optometry. We hold meetings in which pre-optometry students can exchange information regarding the field of optometry. We have files of all the schools of optometry in North America, school rankings, class profiles, pre-requisite requirements, and information about the Optometry Admissions Test (OAT). We invite local optometrists, school representatives, and current optometry students as guest speakers for each meeting.
MEMBERSHIP
Pre-Optometry Club is open to any undergraduate student interested in the profession of optometry.

ADMISSIONS TEST REQUIRED: ALL U.S. and Canadian schools and colleges of optometry require the Optometry Admission Test (OAT). The OAT is a standardized, multiple choice exam designed to measure general scientific ability and comprehension of scientific information. The exam is sponsored by the Association of Schools and Colleges of Optometry (ASCO). The cost of the exam is $80.00 (1996), which covers the exam and sending test scores to 5 optometry schools. In fact, the revenue generated by the school system's center is minimal in comparison to the millions of dollars of revenue generated at Akron General's four owned sites, says Ribley. Of the annual revenue generated at the facility, Akron General's fees end up being about 15 percent of that. Akron General is paid a monthly fee to run the facility. Any profits generated are turned over to the school district. At the end of the year, Akron General gets a percentage of the net profits. "In the big picture, it doesn't contribute significantly to our revenue," says Ribley. "But, that's not the intent. It does make money and it justifies us being involved.
