Features information on clogging and how it helps you. Class schedules and prices are also available.
http://www.easy.com.au/vickie/why_clog.htm
What is clogging? The best way to describe clogging is that it looks like a cross between Tap Dancing, Line Dancing and "River Dance". Cloggers wear soft leather shoes with noisy taps on them, usually dance in lines and the rhythms generated often sound like those of Irish Dance. Unlike Irish, clogging is done with a relaxed upper body. Individual styling is encouraged so all ages and all fitness levels can dance together. Clogging is one of the two main folk dance forms that started early in the development of the USA as the new European settlers mixed their various traditions. There are now many thousands of clogging clubs in USA and around the world. In Australia Clogging is fairly new, but there are already over 80 clubs. What has clogging got for you? Clogging gives you the opportunity to get out and enjoy a great social activity and get fit at the same time. You legs will tone up very quickly. Clogging improves flexibility, coordination, endurance and strength. It increases lung capacity, relieves stress, and it's aerobic and burns fat Clogging is usually danced in lines because there is a better social group feeling when you can see that your new friends are dancing the same routines as you. Clogging is never the less a

Thank you very much for all your work! This is particular what I like about Crosswinds - your service and that you care about people. I cannot think of any company (and I do not limit that to internet services) I had to do with in the recent years where people were more helpful and polite when I had a problem. Others take ages to reply to e-mails, and when I'm fed up and call one of their expensive help lines I'm connected to a call center where nobody knows anything! You are VERY different from that, I appreciate that very much! By the way, whoever invented the cpanel, please tell him/her that this is a great tool!!!! Barbara www.drbstrohmenger.net

STEPPIN' XPRESS CLOGGING TEAM
Welcome to the STEPPIN' XPRESS CLOGGING TEAM Homepage!
The Steppin' Xpress Clogging Team was formed approximately three years ago in Clare, Iowa by Sudi Regan. Sudi had been a long-time clogger and began to teach the dance form to young girls on her porch. The craze caught on and some adults began to join in. Many, many hours of organization and practice, practice, practice ensued. The end result is Steppin' Xpress
The Steppin' Xpress Clogging Team is constantly gearing up for their next performance. The club hosted the 1998 Fall Iowa Clogging Association Convention on October 23-25 in Clare. The club members attended and performed in the Iowa Clogging Association Convention in Altoona in late March. The group recently performed at AppleFest in Fort Dodge as well as the Iowa State Fair. About Clogging
How did clogging originate? The image most people have is that of the early settlers, sitting around on a big wooden porch at the end of the day, watching the sun go down behind the mountains. Somebody picks up a fiddle and starts to play other folks start dancing the steps they remember from the "old country," and make up new steps as well, tapping out the beat of the music with their shoes. And that is the way it began . . . Clogging is an American folk dance that developed in this country, like jazz and tap. Traditional dances were brought over by immigrants from the British Isles who settled in the southern Appalachian Mountains during the 1700's and 1800's. They brought with them dances like Irish jigs, Scottish and Welsh dances, and a type of dance still done in the north of England today, where the dances tap and stomp out rhythms with the traditional wooden clogs. In Appalachia, other influences, such as those of Native American and African steps and rhythms, gave clog dancing here a uniquely American flavor. The Soco Gap Dancers won the first recorded clogging competition, held in 1938 in Asheville, NC, at Bascom Lunsford's Mountain Dance and Folk Festival. The following year, the group performed at the White House for the King and Queen of England. The Queen reportedly commented that the dancing appeared much like the English style of folk dance called "clogging," and from then on, that is how it has been known.

Clogging: What is it?
No, It's Not Dancing in Clogs Hi folks!  I've moved again!  No, I'm not a Nomad.  Now I live in California. For those of you who are first timers, I made this page due to the limited amount of information in the web (some of which is incorrect).  I took both traditional and modern Clogging lessons for close to 10 years. In that time, I learned a lot about Clogging and other dances.  I may not be taking lessons any more, but I'm still a Clogger at heart!  Please be sure to check out my FAQ page and please, if you can answer any question posed by others in my guestbook, send them an e-mail! I am thinking of adding a section devoted solely to clogging groups in different regions.  Send me an e-mail if you would find this helpful.

RADIATION MAY PREVENT HEART VESSELS FROM REclogging AFTER ANGIOPLASTY March 16, 1998 – a new treatment that prevents arteries from re-clogging after
http://www.cumc.columbia.edu/dept/radoncology/HeartVessels.htm
NEWS RADIATION MAY PREVENT HEART VESSELS FROM RE-CLOGGING AFTER ANGIOPLASTY NEW YORK, NY Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center . In the treatment, radiation is applied to the interior of the arteries immediately after balloon angioplasty. Columbia-Presbyterian is currently the only institution testing this procedure. "Each year, about a half-million people undergo interventional procedures to open clogged heart arteries. In 30 to 40 percent of these patients, the vessels close back up, or restenose, necessitating either another procedure of the same sort or bypass surgery, " explains study leader Judah Weinberger, M.D . who is associate professor of Cl inical Medicine and Pharmacology at Columbia-Presbyterian. Although this opens the artery, it also damages a portion of the vessel in the process. "If you injure these cells, they react by proliferating and forming scar-like lesions, which eventually clog the artery," says Dr. Weinberger. In animal experiments, the researchers demonstrated that this process can be inhibited by applying radiation, via a specially designed catheter, directly to the angioplasty site. In the treatment, known as intracoronary irradiation, a balloon-tipped catheter is placed at the angioplasty site and filled with a radioisotope that emits beta radiation. The catheter is left in place for five to ten minutes. Once irradiated, the cells stop growing, and the vessel wall heals without the formation of occlusive lesions. (The latest results from animal testing were presented in November 1997 at the annual meeting of the American Heart Association in Orlando, FL.)

The protests were worth it
There he was, in our city, accepting the nomination of his party to continue his reign of arrogant, violent, blind ineptitude. It was time to move. Approximately 2,000 people- a small though significant number, especially when considering the degree of intimidation in the air as a result of the 1,800 arrests over the previous few days- took to 15th street heading west, then turned North on 8th Avenue in one of the most spirited and optimistic gatherings I have seen in a long time. I think we, the protesters, did the city proud this week. The only violence was initiated by the NYPD. Our message was clear when it was allowed to poke through the blurring filter of the mass media. Our spirits remained high throughout it all regardless of everything that happened. It is too early to put all of this in perspective. Did we have an impact? Did we change any minds? Will Bush win anyway? These are certainly questions that haunt many of us, and will continue to do so in the coming months. However, some unmistakably good things have come as a result of all this. The progressive community in New York City, with its endless array of causes, concerns and ideologies, is more unified, more connected to each other- not just politically, but personally- than we may have ever been. Clogging
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
Clogging is a traditional type of percussive folk dance which is common in the Appalachian Region of the United States, associated with the predecessor to bluegrass "old time" music which is based on Irish and Scots-Irish fiddle tunes. The dance is not performed using traditional wooden clogs - but leather-soled shoes with special taps. The rhythms are derived from Irish, Scottish and English step-dancing, Cherokee Indian dancing and African dance and drum rhythms. Nowadays people use a great variety of music, as long as it's in four-four time and is pretty fast, it works. Some forms of traditional African clogging have been absorbed into more modern clog-dancing; the jooba is one such move. This dance -related article is a stub .
