About the IIGCC
The Institutional Investors Group on Climate Change (IIGCC) is a forum for collaboration between pension funds and other institutional investors on issues related to climate change. IIGCC seeks to:
  • Promote better understanding of the implications of climate change amongst our members and other institutional investors.
Encourage companies and markets in which IIGCC members invest to address any material risks and opportunities to their businesses associated with climate change and a shift to a lower carbon economy.
A full list of members and details of our structure, steering committee and secretariat is provided in the membership section Quick Links Programme Director Wanted
2003 conference page
Why the Group was formed
Climate change is arguably the biggest environmental risk management challenge facing many of the corporations in which we invest. It is already affecting government and fiscal policy and consumer behaviour. So as investors we need to understand the investment implications of this if we are to maintain professional standards of investment management.

"The Cry of Creation: Global Warming and Global Justice"

The Earth is the Lord's and all that it holds, the world and all its inhabitants.
PSALMS 24:1
Why is the faith community concerned about global climate change?
It is a matter of justice.
  • Justice for poor people who will be most severely impacted by changing weather and rising seas and who have the least capacity to adapt. Justice for future generations who will inherit an unstable climate and potentially catastrophic rises in sea level, migration of tropical diseases, and disrupted agricultural production. Justice for all of creation that is threatened by climate change.
  • How can we fulfill our calling as stewards?
We are called to serve as stewards of creation. In this role, let's take action together - on public policy , in our congregations , in our homes and daily lives , by joining with others in our community , by joining the Interfaith Climate Change Network , and by inviting others to join our efforts.

U.N. bids to rescue climate deal
A Greenpeace protester wears a mask of Bush and holds a torn paper, symbolising the Kyoto treaty BERLIN, Germany A U.N. conference on global warming begins on Monday to try to rescue the Kyoto greenhouse emissions pact after the U.S. abandoned it as harmful to its economy. Delegates from some 180 countries are expected to gather in Bonn, Germany, for a new round of bargaining over the treaty. The Kyoto pact is aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to global warming. It was negotiated in 1997 by the U.S. and major industrialised nations, but U.S. President George W. Bush has since rejected it. Scientists believe the gases mostly a result of burning fossil fuels trap heat into the earth's atmosphere, contributing to global warming, which could cause disastrous weather changes and floods over the next 100 years. While the EU has decided to ratify the Kyoto treaty next year even without the United States, Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi is still holding out for the U.S. to participate.

    Deal reached on climate talks
MARRAKECH, Morocco (AP) Negotiators reached an agreement early Saturday on rules governing a treaty on climate change, the first international accord to curb global warming, a spokesman for the European delegation said. The agreement, accepted in a closed-door meeting of chief delegates, still needed approval by the full plenary of the climate conference and was expected as a matter of course. The announcement by European spokesman Vincent Georis, of Belgium, came after 18 hours of talks that stretched well into Saturday although a Friday deadline had been set. "The global package is adopted," Georis told reporters. EXTRA INFORMATION Morocco's Marrakesh is the site of the two-week conference on Earth's climate. An old saying expresses the thought that "climate is what you expect, weather is what you get." What can we expect from the climate of the United States, and the whole world, in the coming decade—or even in the next millennium? As all life on Earth depends on a favorable climate to survive, that's an important question, a question that researchers at NOAA are trying to answer.
