For Hands On Learning Experiences
Every tool on this page is versatile enough to use as an enrichment, reinforcement, or remedial tool. Their multi-sensory or "hands on" interaction make them effective for kinesthetic learners that need manipulatives and/or tactile input.
These products were chosen to reach auditory, visual and tactile learners-enabling all students to pay attention better and retain the information with less effort. I use these tools in my classroom and with my children at home.
Our family always seems to needs "hands on" educational experiences in order to learn. We have used these products for years. One nice thing about most of these products is that they are self checking and many contain instant feedback. I use Hot Dots, the Ready to Read Phonics Programs and Fun Thinkers in my classroom daily.

Diane Slaouti Language and Literacy Studies in Education, University of Manchester Keynote paper IATEFL/TESOL Spain, Madrid, September 1998 “Technology in teaching and classroom research: teachers taking possession of the tools of technology” The title of this paper suggests my current concern with the ways in which teachers might ‘own’ technology in the same way that a confident teacher ‘owns’ other tools of his/her trade: the textbook, the audio recorder, the video recorder, visuals to name but a few. Ownership implies a comfort in implementation and decision-making that is not wholly generalisable but so often, as Freeman (1996: 89) describes, reflects ‘the texture of their classrooms’ and follows ‘the contour of their teaching’. For many teachers of years of experience, getting to grips with simply the logistics of introducing technology is in itself a challenge. Knowing how technology impacts upon the ‘texture of the classroom’ is still an unknown quantity for many. Implementation, therefore, is one issue and many training courses seek to give a base-line knowledge to begin to implement. However, as Freeman (ibid, 90) continues, Knowing how to teach does not simply entail behavioural knowledge of how to do particular things in the classroom; it involves a cognitive dimension that links thought with activity, centring on the context-embedded, interpretative process of knowing what to do. This contextual know-how is learned over time; its interpretations shape truly effective classroom practice.

Reach Beyond the Science Classroom with Online Tools Few disciplines require the successful fusion of so many diverse skills as science. These skills include question formation, research, data collection, data analysis, and communication. Science instructors utilize multiple tools and techniques to infuse content into the acquisition of these skills. While laboratory exercises, research, and group discussion and presentation activities occur in all effective science classrooms, today's teachers have access to powerful technological tools which can enhance these learning experiences, tools which were not available in classrooms only a few years ago. Scientists seamlessly integrate technology into their work. Gathering and analyzing data and sharing findings with others can be accomplished more efficiently using technology. The potential benefits for students and teachers who utilize technological resources in science are enormous. From providing access to equipment and data unavailable in most classrooms, to furnishing opportunities for communication with scientists and other students across the country and even the world, powerful online tools can stimulate and motivate students to learn as never before.

Using SCIENCE FICTION SPACE TECHNOLOGY : A TOOL FOR LEARNING in the classroom
BACKGROUND From an editorial letter to AD ASTRA, Jun 1990: "Science fiction is not only the best way to predict the future, it has also helped to create the civilian space program. "Name any other method of attempting to forecast the future...including the work of professional scientists...Read their predictions five or ten years after they were written. Pitiful! Science fiction writers, on the other hand, have predicted virtually every aspect of our modern world - often 30 or more years before the events came to pass." Ben Bova, Chairman, National Space Society Board CONCEPT Have the students analyze space science fiction rockets, robots, etc. found in movies, comics, and novels. Ask them to find: (1) What about these devices is possible with today's technology? (2) What is probably not possible with today's technology? (3) What new technology is needed to make these science fiction devices work? STUDY PROCEDURE Ask each student to choose a science fiction technical device to analyze. Outline for the student a suggested study approach:
