Start with clearly conceived Student Learning (Behavioral) Objectives. Know the learning outcomes you are trying to help students master. Concepts Skills Information/Content Procedures Select the most authentic means to accomplish your objectives Let your objectives determine the best way to teach your lesson. Have a lesson design for each of the type of learning outcomes list above. When will the students get to “put it all together?” Or is each lesson a disconnected chunk? Synthesis is motivating as well as cognitively essential.
Lesson Delivery
Good directions (think about the S’s and the N’s). Make sure that both the big picture and the specifics are clearly explained. Use anticipatory activities (put new information into a larger context) Model interest in the topic. Why is it meaningful and relevant? Teach your students not just your lesson outline. Focus on what they are learning not on what you are presenting Modify if necessary. If your lesson or your curriculum is not working, try something that you feel would be more effective.

How does a lead teacher control what occurs inside distant classrooms, perhaps many miles away? First, it is vital to have a teaching partner at each receiving site in the classroom with students. Their task is to assist the lead teacher in achieving course goals and objectives, and they are essential for successful classroom management. The success or failure of videoconference classroom experiences is often directly related to the support of the teaching partner. In addition, classroom management consists of three issue areas: time, motivation, and communication.
Time
Videoconference instruction will take more time to prepare and deliver than a teacher new to the lead role expects it will take not only because of the technology, but also because of the number of sites and students involved. Preparation, production, communication, and instruction time will likely be more than double that of a regular, live course.

Substitute Teaching/Classroom Management
I have a problem I'm sure your wisdom and experience will help me with. I'm subbing, and having some classroom management problems. Most of the classes I've subbed have been very good, but I'm having trouble with one class in particular. Before Christmas break, I subbed for a science teacher. The last class of the day was 9th graders, and as they came into the room, I had a feeling I was going to have some trouble with some students. Sure enough, I introduced myself and tried to take roll, but the kids would not be quiet for anything. The majority of the class was pretty good after I finally quieted them down and gave the assignment the teacher left for me, but there were still a few boys who did everything possible to make me feel my management skills are completely lacking! On Friday, I subbed for this same teacher and expected the same from this class, and I wasn't disappointed. As they were working, I closely monitored those I knew I'd have trouble with, I separated them, threatened to have their papers due at the end of the hour rather than Monday (a tactic the teacher said I could use), but even after I followed through on that threat, I still felt like these kids were walking all over me. My main problem is with 6 boys, and unfortunately, they all sit near each other.

1. Focusing
Inexperienced teachers sometimes think that by beginning their lesson, the class will settle down. The children will see that
The focusing technique means that you will demand their attention before you begin. It means that you will wait and not start until everyone has settled down. Experienced teachers know that silence on their part is very effective. They will punctuate their waiting by extending it 3 to 5 seconds after the classroom is completely quiet. Then they begin their lesson using a quieter voice than normal.
A soft spoken teacher often has a calmer, quieter classroom than one with a stronger voice. Her students sit still in order to hear what she says.
