A series of lessons for students to learn about the implications of the Bill of Rights in their own lives THE BILL OF RIGHTS FOR REAL LIFE http://www.billofrightsinstitute.org Overview Special Features Civic Learning Goals ... Overview This curriculum uses techniques and strategies that are most appropriate for teaching these students so they will grow into informed and engaged citizens. This authentic connection is perhaps most critical for students who are unlikely to attend college, as this will be their final academic exposure to these critical principles. Each unit contains two lessons designed and edited by master teachers experienced with teaching non-college-bound youth. The first lesson in each unit explores the history and foundations of each theme, from the Founders through freedom of religion and expression, guns, criminal procedure, private property, citizen juries, personal liberty, federalism, and finally the incorporation of Bill of Rights protections to the states. The second lesson in each unit engages students in contemporary, real-life applications of each theme. Students participate in real life situations such as writing letters to their elected representatives, participating in a mock jury, and creating public serving announcements. | |
